Test rode the 848 & 1098
Discussion
I actually test rode a bike!
I went to ride the 848 as I had discounted the 1098 as a bit....dunno, just too much for me. So took the 848 out. Nice. Very nice. Easy to ride and encouraged a nice relaxing ride. However, it felt very, very stiff, and not all that comfortable. I was told that a suspension set up would sort that out...fair enough.
Then I tried the 1098s.............This bike has got to be almost perfect. It is fantastic, absolutely fantastic to ride. Loads of torque and handles like a dream. Personally, I still don't think they are the best looking bikes in the worlld, but that really doesn't matter to me anymore. It is soooooo good, me and the mrs are about to have a chat!
Anyone on here got one?
Cheers.

I have a few friends with 1098s's and they love them, very planted and very very quick.

I preferred my 916 over the 1098S I took out last year. I'm not talking a run around the block either. Gave it some serious miles across Lincolnshires hidden treasures. Far to nice and comfortable. Put it another way. Every good ride on a 916 you always feel like you've just won the TT. The 1098 is a great handling bike with serious performance, but it lacks the racing posture and feel the 916 genre offered. In short, the 1098 looks like an R1 from the front, and feels like one from the seat. Should appeal to a wider audience than the 916 etc ever did. Pity really.

"Darling, I'd really like to spend £14,000 on a new motorbi...""No."
"Please? I'll even consider foreplay."
"Lets negotiate."
Hmmm....vs the R1? Erm, err!!!
Right, discussions have taken place, and all is good. However, being the most indecisive person on the planet..........I dunno!

Interesting. Perhaps a ride on another Duc might help? Even with the dry clutch, the 1098 doesn't sound as much of a bag of nails on tickover as previous ones I've heard. This appealed.Cheers.

Give it time, it'll be rattling like a good'un after a few thousand miles............. I would never sell my 916 but if I was in the market for a new bike I'd be looking at a 1098.
Go on, you know it makes sense......

I dare not try 1098 just in case I like it. I am looking at a Firestorm as a replacement to the Blackbird though
Honesty, it's dangerous....I went ot look at the 848 thinking I could pick up a 6 month one for £8k....now looking at a lot more for a nice new 1098. Perhaps an 07 1098s.....I dare not try 1098 just in case I like it. I am looking at a Firestorm as a replacement to the Blackbird though

That 'bag of nails' sound use to mean 'wow I want a Duc'. Cheers.
Pretty much sums up where Ducati have gone to accommodate the less discerning superbike owner. Once upon a time a Ducati superbike was a race bike in road trim. Still, someone's got to pay for Stoner's mechanics laptop I suppose. Might as well be all those R1 and Blade owners queuing up for the Ducati magic. Not that they'd ever know, but the magic has changed.
