So what's your nod?

Great ride out on Sunday and plenty of nodding going on and after a while I was starting to play the 'guess the nod game' with some success as follows:
1. Sports bike - starts with a stare moving to a 45degree right headbut - I like this one lot!
2. Tourer - looking straight ahead with a slow nod - easily missed at anything above 20mph.
3. Harley/chopper - nothing - too cool for school?
4. Trailey - side ways jerk - like gesturing it's over there mate!
4. Big naked (the bike!) - slow roll of the head with what I imagine to be a wink going on in there.
5. Classics - quick jerky nod - usually last minute but they all count.
After considering my findings I passed a convoy of 4 or 5 bikes so thought I'd try them all out in one go, sadly I was giggling too much to get them all in but if you were one of them please accept my apologoies.

Nah, I usually nod, but its very rare any bugger nods back.

I vary mine. This is a good idea when you meet a BIG group coming the other way, otherwise you'll get dizzy nodding 50 times. Sometimes I put my hand up. That covers about 10 bikes at a time in a close group.
In Europe, a lot of the continentals use their legs rather than nod.
I once stopped on a narrow country lane in the car to let a convoy of about 50 or 60 bikes past. Every one of them nodded or waved and I waved back. Now I know how the queen feels waving continuously from her limo. It is a tough job and she certainly earns her keep In Europe, a lot of the continentals use their legs rather than nod.

....although I am going to try this headbutting the tank three times on the next unsuspecting biker

Was still on a 125 only last month and get no more or less nods than now, a bikes a bike mate so I always nod to L plates as it made me grin and spurred me on when I got one.davidn said:

Waaaay back when: used to be a custom for bikers to make an 'O' with finger and thumb to tell the guy going the other way that the next stretch of road was pi.. er, plo... I mean Police-free.

Then again I suppose it's not the fuzz you need to worry about, they rarely hide in farm gateways anymore.

Then again I suppose it's not the fuzz you need to worry about, they rarely hide in farm gateways anymore.round here, and over in the north west where I'm occasionally found, it seems to be the norm that you nod to say hello and either flash the beams a couple of times and / or give a slow down gesture with your hand if there's 5-0
Really nice when you get warned, which you often do I've found, but it makes it all the more annoying when you're not, especially by a fellow biker.
