Finally picked up the ZX9R this morning after waiting about a month to have my years NCB

Pictures are a bit further down the page.....

Its a 1998 ZX9R....1st impressions are:

1).... POWER!!!!... you can feel that its always wanting to pull and seems to be happy tootling around town in 1st gear, and as I found out it will easily do 90 in 2nd!

2) Riding position is very different to my ER6 and seems to put a lot of pressure on my wrists, but this is probably something I will get used to through riding it

3) Feel a lot more "as 1" with the bike.... probably due to the position, but seems a lot easier to lean into corners and feels a lot more stable mid corner than my old bike

I'm sure I will have more comments as I ride it more, but have done 20ish miles on it this morning and had a big smile on my face when I got to work... which is a 1st!

These are on my "next bike" list (subheading "astonishingly good value").

My last modern bike was an ER6, so any further thoughts are welcome. I've sat on a C1 and didn't think it was too bad for riding position (ie not too wrist heavy).

Also thought it felt quite light for a fairly chunky machine.

Was it a private sale or dealer?

Was bought from a local garage... is a 2 owner bike (3 inc me) which isn't bad for a 12 year old bike!

Typical english weather it has started raining here and with the semi-slick rear tyre I don't much fancy it as it will only be my 2nd time riding it... so its staying @ work tonight.

Will hopefully be able go for a ride over to Silverstone on Sunday on it. Don't have tickets to the Moto GP, but will probably take a ride over just for somewhere to go!

ETA - Does anyone have any reccomendations on tyres for a novice sports bike rider who wants to be able to ride in the rain as well as the dry?

Lovely, get some pics up, I still have some fond memories of my old E2 ZX9, very under rated bikes..

Michelin Pilot Road 2s IMO. Or the Pirreli Angels- not tried those, but heard good things.

My C1 was a great bike. A very capable and underrated bike.

Hope you enjoy yours.

Have managed to find a way to get some photos up:

List to do.... sort out a bit of a mark on the fairing, tail tidy and smaller plate and at some point a new (louder) exhaust, as the current one is far to quiet and won't wake the neighbors up in the morning like my old one... which surely is half the fun????

Get rid of the double bubble screen!
nothing wrecks the sleek lines of a 9r as bad as that thing, also the increased wind exposure will help take the pressure off your wrists.

Bloody typical... coming out of the carpark at work... looking to do a quick U turn to get out... turn right.... bugger, not enough speed.... and dropped it....

Was only my 2nd time out on it and I think I underestimated how different the lock was compared to my ER6...

Luckily there was no cracked panels, just a little scuff on the right fairing and a bit on the mirror and a big dent..... in my pride! Luckily I wasn't the last to leave, so someone helped me to lift it up... bloody heavy when its laying on the floor!

Am planning a respray @ some point anyway, so isn't too much of a big deal.

Gutted! this is my worry now I've got something with expensive fairings. At least the damage sounds minimal.

Spose so in a funny kinda way.

Gives me an excuse to get it painted white now as well!
