So I just picked up a B6 S4 Avant last week and have a few (rather boring) questions about it:

Do the head rests go all the way down? Both on the front and rear seats I can't seem to get the headrests to go all the way down. The seem to be moulded to fit around the tops of the seats but I can't get them to go any further down than about an inch above the seat.

Does the Symphony II have GALA? On my S3 it had a feature called GALA where it turned the volume up and down along with the speed. Can't seem to find this function on the S4 even though it is mentioned in the manual.

Does the TMS traffic info work in the UK? My car has the standard sat nav (the one without the big screen). It supports radio broadcast traffic info but the function that allows you to select the station to get this info from just says there are no channels available and a lot of the options in the menu have a padlock beside them.

In the manual, it mentions that if you have the electric mirror knob set to the passenger mirror adjust position, when you select reverse it dips to help you see the curb. I tried this but it doesn't move?

Is there any way to display current speed on the DIS?

So far, a great car, just trying not to look at the MPG.

It's not always a good idea to have headrests pushed right down, could be dangerous in an accident. Obviously depends how tall you are but they should be positioned half way up your head.

I think GALA is superseded by another system on the B6 S4, something built in the the BOSE amps (Audio Pilot?). It works using a small mic to monitor ambient noise and (in my car this connection had come loose and needed fixing). I think the only control you have over this system is ON or OFF and it's not an obvious control, seem to remember it involved holding down a combination of buttons!

Never heard about the mirror thing.

I'm not aware that my B6 has any of those functions and I can live without them. To be honest I can't think why I'd want GALA when I bought the car for the V8 soundtrack.

As for mpg, I'm always astounded at what you get for your average 21mpg. Should think more of smiles per mile thumbup

The thing is that the Smiles per Gallon (SPG) is inversely proportional to the MPG.

I.E Increase your SPG = Decrease your MPG

MarcTwo post some pictures of the S4 and give us some info, where you got it from, mileage etc (but only if you're ok with that obviously wink) I've been trying to find a decent B6 S4 Avant but auto box for a few weeks now, without having to travel from one end of the country to the other; you lucky, lucky, lucky boy! clap

Dammit - someone else looking. Sagpack, let me see them first biggrin

I agree though there's not a whole lot of good cars around at the moment (other than the one Marc bought - it sounds spot on).

Thanks. The car I bought was the 6th car I looked at. Out of those 6, only 2 were really in good condition and one of those was green! It was a private sale and I had a 3 hour round trip to see it but it was worth it. It's an 04 plate tiptronic with just under 39,000 miles on the clock. I'll post some pictures if it ever stops raining.

I went to look with a friend which really helped for a more objective opinion and made it easier to check the car over in a short period of time. Once I agreed the sale, I got it inspected at a local garage to make sure there were no nasty surprises.

Overall I like the car a lot. If I am honest, I don't think it feels quite as special as my S3, but it is more 'grown up'. Inside it could be any well specced A4, but when you start it up you know where the money went.

Good luck with your searching and be sure to let me know how you get on.

Finally got around to taking a photo, albeit a very bad one.

Have any of you other guys found a car yet?

I'm still looking, Marc.

The cash is ready and waiting and I'm just waiting for the right car to turn up - slightly frustrating but I'm happy to wait for the right one!

There's a blue one for sale at the moment from a company with a good reputation and I'll be going to look at that this Saturday.

I'm on every e-mail list you can imagine, PH - Autotrader etc, so it's just a matter of time smile

I want it now though!

Love the colour of yours Marc!

It's parked 15 feet in front of me.

I sold it to the previous owner, my colleague sold it to its new owner on Saturday laugh
