You can do it yourself! Go on autotrader, find a similar example and look at the asking price.

Decent colour/interior combination, decent mileage, and a post 2000 model (Bosch gubbins rather than Lucas!)

But it still won't be worth what you would hope.

The bottom has fallen out of the 4x4 market, and as such the price of the newer L322 has dropped - so as a result, P38s are worth considerably less than they were a year/18 months ago.

Hi Meeja,

Thanks for the reply - I've had a poke about on Autotrader / Ebay. Seem to be plenty in the trade; same age but with 70-80k miles for £7.5-8.5k? (but what do they sell for?)

For comparison (and if I was looking to buy) and looking around I'd say £7k ish for mine private? But I could well have missed the point completely hence the post...?

Cheers,

Steve

I think in the current market it is a case of stick a finger up in the air, and see what happens.

Are the cars you have seen up for sale with dealers? If so, then they will always be asking a lot more than they are secretly prepared to accept.

Selling privately will also depend on your cars history, and whether there are any signs of skimped maintenance or signs of any of the known "big" faults. (Not meant as a dig!!) It also depends on how desperate you are to sell - stick an advert in the PH classifieds and see what happens! What lets you down (slightly) is that it is not Vogue trim (although the colour/interior combo works in your favour)

I bought mine a year ago, (2000W Vogue) after spending over a year looking for the "right" car, I bought privately, and at £8k, paid the chap over £1k less than he was asking. (Took a lot of haggling!)

Thanks Meeja,

Finger in the air done! - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/837713.htm

In no hurry to sell. Its' worth what someone will pay obviously - but does seem a LOT of car for the money!

Cheers,

Steve

I am looking at the moment (must be a Vogue). The ones that are selling are going for less than 5k

^ I missed out on a 90k-mile 'X' reg Vogue which which a trader had up for £2750 in the week before Christmas!

Well priced, they sell immediately!

^^^^ What he said.

I looked at LOTS before buying mine, and saw some "nicely cleaned up to sell" sheds

Some "Yeah it needs a couple of hundred quid spending on it" sheds

and some of these.

I love the ones where they say it only needs something really small and cheap to get it through the MOT and then it'd be worth much more.

Right.. scratchchin

Pikey - are you seriously looking, or just floating an idea at the moment?

Yes. Late P38. Petrol. Vogue.

I figure they're incredible value for money and the 322 is about twice as much, twice as problematic (at that price range) and twice as much to repair!

Problem is MrsP hasn't learnt to drive in the Yaris yet (temporary car until she got a licence), but as it's been 2 years (she's busy and I'm too good as a Chauffeur!) so I figure I can change the car for a bigger one!

Also on ebay - it'll at least find it's own value!!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

Pikey good luck with the hunt - there are some real old buses out there - so be carefull!

What was the difference between the Vogue and the County? I thought the Vogue was petrol and Diesel came in County (which was the DT) and DSE + DHSE flavours?

Cheers,

Steve

I agree with Pikey - I do like the wheels on that. What are they, and approx cost? I have to get my hurricanes refurbed soon (rim corrosion) but am tempted by replacement rather than refurb.

Differences between the County and the Vogue:

Full electric seats? Yours doesn't seem to have electric adjustmwents - certainly on the front passenger seat.

Wood trim on the steering wheel (I *think* that was standard on the Vogue)

Tinted windows from rear passenger doors backwards

A couple of others I think - but off the top of my head can't remember!

ETA: Up to £5100 so far - looking good sir!
