Hey

I was just wondering if they are any website/business owners on here who have had any considerable sucess with AdSense, can you really make a good amount of money with it?

Also do you get paid per click?

What other PPC Schemes/income streams could i consider adding to my site

Many Thanks

Chris

Yes I use AdSense on many sites.. yes you get paid per click.. yes there are alternatives but AdSense is the most rocksolid, and as for something else for online income from your site, try Kontera contextual advertising.

Yes it does work. I tend to get paid by Google once a month by cheque. I've not had a massive one yet but the site is in its early days.

To make anything decent with adsense you need a lot of traffic in my opinion as we as internet users are becoming more and more "ad blind", so the amount of clicks you will receive won't be as amazing as you may think initially.

Depending on the niche that your site is in you could also look at affiliate programs which will pay per action (sales etc).

Yes, highly recommend it.

I run it on around 80 sites, its proven much better than affiliate scheme banners (TradeDoubler etc) which generate the odd commission but nothing on the steady stream from AdSense.

As a tip, you can optimise your ads to a point by carefully placing content above and below them. If you word your content right, you can target the ads towards better paying related keyword subjects than others - so if your site is about cars, you can nudge the ads towards car credit for example, which pay much better than used car ads due to the cost per click.

I would love to disagree with you, but for ease of use, number of advertisers and reliability, Adsense wins hands down. There is a downside though, the PPC is likely to frustrate you – but if you follow the SEM rumour mill, the more established and trusted your site, the better the revenues per click from Google - and having worked for a search engine for three years, I would concur.

There are far more lucrative options available for larger sites and networks, but for hobby sites it really isn’t worth the hassle.

Also check out ‘associates.amazon.co.uk’ for their own affiliate scheme - especially the scripts which include relevant links to their products (from which you will receive 5% per sale) within your website text. If you have a large proportion of international traffic, I have a couple of php scripts I use on my own sites to switch to Amazon US, Canada, UK, even EU, depending on IP.

S A M - Just out of curiosity, what kind of sites do you run?

County based vehicle sites (used cars, vans and so on) running from some software I developed a few years ago - after being setup, they run themselves. They aren't "spam sites" though, but quite heavily optimised.

Interesting, the reason I ask it that one of my SEM clients is looking to expand her portfolio and i'm searching for medium to large quality websites, or networks, to fulfil her requirements. If you know of anyone looking to sell, please let me know.

My busiest site gets c250,000 page loads a month and I make $25/month from adsense. I won't be retiring early for sure but only the non-'club' members see the ads so my account shows 175,000 page impressions on adsense.

I just had a quick look in the reports, the best ever revenue in one day was just over $100, that was from 126 clicks and 1,312 impressions.

Not quite as good as that these days unfortunately, they need some tweaking and a bit of a tidy up. All good fun though.

For AdSense to work really well, you need a genuine attraction; MFA sites will only ever bring in pocket money IMO. Kontera and contextual ads can work better than AdSense in some cases.. I run Kontera and it regularly gets more clicks than the Ad boxes due to its very nature / being embeded in the site text.

Well, that isn't entirely true - MFA with a slight twist can bring in more, alot more, than a typical premiership footballer gets paid... smile

HMMM, in theory..... but it's rare I would hazard that guess wink Genuine sites generally work a lot lot better.

Yup, rare - but if it wasn't, no one would make any money.

Yep just sites that were made with the sole purpose of gaining click throughs on AdSense.. no intention of it being a genuine site, maintained for actual visitors who you'd hope to build a relationship with.

It does that automatically.. whatever page you place them on - Ads shown will be relevant to that content..
