Supposed to be quite good from what I've read elsewhere, just a shame its so limited on storage.

pretty cool that it plays Divx video straight out of the box as well, no need for conversion.

Hi Nick.

Thanks for the information you gave on the phone.

I have had mine two days now. I was on Vodafone so I'm waiting for my PAC code to come so I can bring my number with me to O2. Because of this I haven't yet been online on the phone as it's not setup with the Vodafone SIM I have in there, but it'll all be on O2 within a week (I hope).

To clarify, I was going to go for this (LG) or the Sony Ericsson K850i. I'm coming from a Sony Ericsson K800i.

First impressions - Box looked smart, nicely packaged, opened up to see phone and impressed was my first thoughts.
Turned on and all going well. Takes some getting used to the setup of the GUI (is that what you'd call it?), some oversights, like when using the keyboard, you have to go to symbol, insert to get an '. It's not just a quick button.

There is only one port for the charger/ USB lead/ Head phone leads so you can't charge it up while listening to music. Personally I have an iPod so this isn't a problem for me. It charges via USB also.

There is no lens cover on the camera, personally I found that my K800 (that had a lens cover) still got dirty and needed a clean anyway. The lens is set in slightly so it shouldn't get scratched. It may also get grubby from hands when you are using the job level surrounding the camera lens, but I think it should be alright and just require a wipe clean now and again.

The camera images are quite noisy even when on low ISO. Saying this, the image is still good quality and even compact cameras have noise issues so you can't really escape it. But once again I have a DSLR and I'm in the process or buying a compact camera so personally this doesn't bother me. Still great photos from a phone camera and that is what it is after all, a mobile phone camera, not a dedicated device.

For those who want to know about the storage issues. There is an Micro SD slot. You have to remove the battery to get to this so it's not hot swappable but I don't find myself removing memory cards to often. I have read online that people have put 8gb memory cards in. Although the phone only seeing 2gb of it to copy onto. I've read that you can fill it up from a computer and the phone can read all the date from it or something similar. So so if you have a larger than 2 gig memory card, try it out. I've also read on the matter that SD to SHDC is only a software update and not hardware so maybe in the future?

Enough of the bad aspects.

I like the phone. It's different to phones that I've normally gone for. Nice vivid screen and a good camera and video camera built in. The 120FPS slow motion video recording is a bit of a giggle but I'd say more of a gimic unless you can find an everyday use for this?

The touch screen responds well, it does come with a separate stylus that you can clip to a keyring (I keep mine in my wallet) for a more precise approach to navigation. Personally my fingers seem to do the job well enough but I will say that I don't have fat sausage like fingers for those out there wondering.

I've read in reviews that the sliding switch to change between still camera/ video camera/ and playback mode (like on many a normal camera) is a little stiff to use. boocks is what I say. You can use it with your little finger. I've no qualms.

That's off the top of my head as I've written loads already.

I'd recommend it to anyone so far.

How quick is the text entry, David?

I've been thinking about a Viewty, but I'm not sure. I've got an iPod Touch and a Windows Mobile touchscreen phone, and I can't really get used to typing quickly on either; I'm much faster using T9 on proper buttons.

you can get a full qwerty keyboard for texting and to be honest I cant really fault it. The phone in general takes a couple of days to get used to, Ive had mine since Tuesday, but really like it. Wasn't sure at first, but think that was just because I was getting used to it.

Me too, wasn't too sure but had mine a couple of weeks now and love it. Came froma K800i too.
Very impressed with the UI and battery life, my only real issues are a rubbish web browser compared to my Ipod Touch and you can't use the full keyboard text entry everywhere, for no reason what-so-ever as far as I can tell.

I was a bit wary of the texting aspect as well. Cue an email sent to the OP Nick.

You have 3 options. Normal T(=9 (on/off) touch screen keypad, a qwerty keyboard and a mode where you draw onto the screen and it reconises the letters. I have this on my ipaq like I guess you will on yours and I've always found it a bit hit or miss.

Texting with the qwerty keyboard or the T9 pad are easy though. Maybe not as fast, but I'd guess that after a few weeks of using it, you'd be up to speed.

Buy it son.

I want a phone that plays music, and has a good web browser. Not bothered about camera, its a bonus.

ANy more info on the internet browser on the viewty?? I'm drawn to touch screen phones because it appears that the browser will be easier to use than on other phones e.g. SE W910i

Phone will be on Three with unlimited data. I hope this will make up for no wi-fi.

(like the iPhone but don't want to pay for it)

Compared to the K800i and N95, the browser on the viewty is much better. Compared to the iPhone the browser on the viewty is awful smile

The most impressive thing about the viewty for me so far? I charged it up last Thursday morning and only now has it dropped down to one bar on the battery meter, after average use over the past 5.5 days (about 90 mins talking, half an hour on the web, a dozen or so texts and a few pictures and videos). Double the battery life of my old K800i.

I've had mine just over a week now and I love it. I don't use it for web browsing, but it is very easy to use. I really like the QWERTY keyboard and also the 'finger-feedback' from the touchscreen. Overall, very neat. JMHO

Screen is still scratch free after spending a few weeks in my jeans pocket. I tried putting the screen protector on, but couldn't get rid of all the air bubbles, so took it off straight away.

Seems to be much more solid and scratch resistant than other phones i've had.

Just read this... it's a bit disappointing. It's no different to having to transcode everything to go on an iPod.

O/T, but I can't wait until someone writes a DivX codec for the iPod touch... can't be long, I hope, and no more transcoding. smile

You can download and install Opera Mini.

This is meant to be a cracking little browser and should solve any of your browsing problems.

The browser in the LG itself is better than opera mini, but neither of them hold a patch to the iPhone browser i'm afraid.
