Mods: if this should be somewhere else, please let me know.

Yes, I could trawl ebay & gumtree - but thought I'd try this place first as most of you aren't scammers!

I am after a couple of Macbooks (now I have one for my son, the wife wants one and I do too!)

Don't need the latest ones - but definitely want late 2008 versions (the ones with the one piece glass trackpad).

so:

1. White 2.0 GhZ. 2 G Ram is fine - up to around £450

2. Aluminium unibody, ideally a 2.4 Ghz - as it has the backlit keyboard and is more affordable than the Pro - up to around £500-£525

Cheers

Good luck with that, you'll struggle to get them at the price.

I recently sold a 12 year old iBook G4 for £275 - apple kit doesn't depreciate like PC stuff.

Try adding a couple of hundred pounds on each of tips prices and then you'll maybe see them for sale.

I just (last week) bought an aluminium 2.0 GHz with 320 GB hard drive with box on ebay for £501 - turned up 2 day s later exactly as described, with fresh install of latest OS, ilife etc etc - it had small dent in one corner. battery is holding 4+hrs of charge.

So I think the pricing is not far off - as the Ebay seller will have paid £60 in ebay and paypal fees.

eek I can't remember ever paying over 5% in fees, never mind 12%.

ebay final value fees are 10%

paypal fees are 3.4%

It can be expensive to sell stuff on fleabay - that's why people use gumtree etc.

But gumtree is infested with scammers, phishing for email addresses etc.

Apart from all this, I've been a PHer for years and tend to trust the community more than an ebay stranger.

You will be struggling for those prices though. You got a stonking deal.

www.macking.co.uk are selling your MBP s/h for £900 for instance, and I'm betting their buy in is probably higher than what you are offering.

Heh.

Fair enough Tinman.

Ebay is fairly awash with these of various age/condition/spec - so I may have got lucky.

Yeah well. Sold a camcorder last week which should have got to around £700, but struggled in at £500. You still got a cracking deal first time round though!

FWIW the late-08 white one I was selling went for £560 + £10 in the end, and after postage and fees etc that left me with about £500.

Your best bet may be keeping an eye out for any cheap buy it nows on eBay. Good luck with the search anyway thumbup

Cheer Va1o

I should have got yours while I had the chance! But didn't know enough about the product or the market.

Yours would have been ace for the Mrs.

I need a backlit keybosrd for me - hence the alu unibody 2.4 Ghz.

Nope. Gumtree.

If you look regularly and can sift out the nutters flogging stolen crap or scammers, there are some genuine sellers who aren't keen on 10% ebay fees and 4% paypal fees.

Really getting into it then, John? Got yourself omelet, and now you have to get ones for the family so they don't steal yours?

My sister ended up getting a whitey after I let her borrow mine for a weekend.

Well the first one I for my son. Using that is a dream. This one is for me. Looking for a whitey for the wife. In the long run, it will cost me less time sorting viruses etc and it is quicker and, well, better than my laptops my some way.

Now have netbook and laptop to sell and three laptops to mothball!

Im interested too in that please PM me as my whitey needs to be upgraded... to a 15 or 17" MacBook Pro.

Soon as you have the specs, higher the better.
