Hi, am getting to grips with an '09 BMW sat nav system. It's beaten hands down by my little £120 portable garmin GPS but....can anyone direct me to either a thread/website/cd upload I can get that will then let me input a whole postcode before frustration gets to me?!!

The answer to this is entirely dependant on exactly which 2009 BMW Nav system you have.ty
If it's the DVD based system, I think Ebay will sort you out. If it's the later HDD based system, then you can't have full postcode without both newer maps *and* a firmware upgrade at the dealer.

I upgraded my 2010 HDD system last year to full postcode, including 2014 maps, through a geezer on the internet for the princely sum of $35. Unfortunately, said geezer is on BMWLand which is now defunct but I've probably got his email somewhere if you want it.
Are you absolutely sure it has full postcode? I upgraded mine too, with 2014 maps, but it doesn't add the extra postcode functionality without a firmware update. The system will accept a full postcode but it only actually navigates by postcode sector without the firmware.Fox- said:

Absolutely positive in that I can enter a full postcode whereas I couldn't before. That said I hardly use it as I prefer the Google send to car thing and I can't remember if the update I used had the firmware update as well.I updated to 2014 Maps, put 7 digits in (and no other information, such as street name) and get taken to exactly my destination and not as with 5 digit postcodes a wider, sector.
I had a series of software updates (BMW said all the updates) about 4 months earlier. Therefore, I too believe you need the map update and the updated firmware.

I don't understand, my 2010 Z4 had full post code functionality and took me to said post code with no issues.
From the factory, it didn't, unless it was a later 2010 with Combox. Did it do Album Art? If so, there you have it.If not, then a previous owner must have had a firmware upgrade (It doesn't need to be for this issue specifically, I think a general firmware upgrade perhaps installed for another reason did it) and newer maps.
ok..conflicting experiences here...not looking good for my 2009 gig by the sounds of it. When i purchased the car, the dealer alleged it didn't need any sat nav upgrades but then they said it didn't need an oil service either which it warned me it did after only 600 miles of use ......

Ah ok yes it had the combox as it was a late 2010 car. If not, then a previous owner must have had a firmware upgrade (It doesn't need to be for this issue specifically, I think a general firmware upgrade perhaps installed for another reason did it) and newer maps.

No idea.
I know I can connect one phone but not tried more than that.
On album art I haven't played a CD or anything in it yet So again have no idea.
Is that all it offers?
As standard, yes (But it's presence allows the use of other cost-options).I know I can connect one phone but not tried more than that.

I notice from another thread you have a 2009 335i. This won't have a Combox fitted.

If you have your VIN number, you will see it detailed on the spec.

As Fox said, unlikely to have combox. It was only fitted from around Sept '10.

E90 got Combox from March 2010 production. If you have your VIN number, you will see it detailed on the spec.
Which as an F10 owner, a car introduced in March 2010, is most annoying as the F10 didn't get it until September 2010.
OK
Journey today using the sat nav was a nightmare. trying to work out the messages it gives me when issues are ahead seem really difficult to work out what the hell i should be doing.
i can only hope the F11 IDrive sat nav is Garmin instead of Philips which is just pants!! I'm going back to using my little portable Garmin. progress of sorts !!
