FIA Euro Finals
Discussion
I have a wish for enough sponsorship money for me to make a last minute entry and to be competing instead of spectating...
Failing that, I'll hope for good weather and a good meeting with decent racing in all classes. After a great meeting in Tierp, it'd be nice to see some of those records return to Santa Pod at the finals.

I was there yesterday, first timer - only watched the odd drag racing vid on YouTube. Fantastic! The utter carnage, noise, smell of two top fuel cars going off down the strip was something that'll stay with me for a very long time. I'm doing a bad job of putting in to words how much I enjoyed it and just how breath-taking it was.
Other highlights was a sub seven second + 220mph street bike and the road going Bentley GT (no idea how much of it is really Bentley?) doing something pretty rapid and again 200mph+
The funny cars are pretty off the chart too
Now off to read up on the mechanical side of things as I am in awe of the effort, time and money that these guys and girls put into their machines

I always like it when someone new to the sport can get some sort of perspective on just how hard this sport really is.Other highlights was a sub seven second + 220mph street bike and the road going Bentley GT (no idea how much of it is really Bentley?) doing something pretty rapid and again 200mph+

Any questions on the tech , just ask here, theres a goodly number of very techy folk involved in the sport.
Glad you enjoyed the experience.

First time for me too yesterday. Don't worry about struggling to put it into words...I've seen most forms of Motorsport in my time - everything from banger racing to F1 - and this was the only thing I haven't really been able to describe or explain what it was like....!Other highlights was a sub seven second + 220mph street bike and the road going Bentley GT (no idea how much of it is really Bentley?) doing something pretty rapid and again 200mph+

The only downside was the utter shambles trying to exit the car park. It took us almost 2hrs to get out...even leaving the British Grand Prix wasn't that bad.

I've been into motorsport in various guises for a while (go down to the 24hrs of Le Mans each year, catch a few BSB rounds, a few hill-climbs etc) and have a track-prepped Yamaha R6 that I do a few Track days on each year, doing my own spannering where I can. The maintenance of which is minimal when compared with the stuff I saw going down the strip on Saturday. I might need to service the brakes once a year, change the oil every 2 or 3 track days and give the bike a wipe down with an oily rag.
From the very little I know so far, depending on the class, the Nitro engines need to be totally stripped and rebuilt with phenomenal frequency ! I basically still can't comprehend the time and money that is put into the class-leading cars and bikes. I'm glad people do though as it is such a spectacle to see.

It was great experience....but Top Fuel - you need to be there, it's just something else.
Come again and pop round the pits, if were not working on cars/bikes we are all happy to explain the workings etc.
I'm happy to talk you through our car, nowhere near the level of the top dogs but still some tech and that.
It's a truly friendly sport so make the most of it and don't be afraid to go into the pits and ask away.

Best moment from Sunday though was when the driver of one of the Top Fuel (I think) cars went on to two wheels (ON THE SAME SIDE OF THE CAR), almost put it into the wall, recovered it, then thought, "Hang on...I'm still in this race!" and went for it again!! Absolute legend!!!
