knowing that I would have to wait until each and every one of those s had pushed into the queue ahead of me before I would be able to progress the odd car length made me seeth!
It's only one car length. Why get angry? Once you're all back upto 70 mph, how long is that in seconds? #zenLaw-abiding drivers of the vehicles in the ever-lengthening queue behind me would have been delayed well in excess of half an hour.
This is why I am angry.
O.K.?
The point though was in my post, in my experience those bds jamming through the red X signs , at speeds which are actually illegal even on a clear and empty motorway in good visibility, were doing it in the dark, with lots of other traffic about and completely ignoring signs saying workers in carriageway. 100pounds and 3 points wasn't enough in those circumstances. Any careful and prudent driver can see in such circumstances that is driving so far below the required standard as to be dangerous.
I didn't get annoyed, as being annoyed and behind the wheel isn't a good mix. Doesn't stop me thinking the worst cases at least should have a spell on the bus.

Nationwide ANPR control is already here (and has been for several years). Someone can drive from Heathrow to central Edinburgh and be 100% tracked from start to finish.....
It is equally just as easy to drive the similar route and not get pinged once as they are only on major routes.Like always this only affects those people who are good enough to taxeurocracy , insure & register their cars , vans or HGV`s in the correct fashion. Those that dont, continue to drive round with impunity.

Having also experienced one of those M25 fiascos, what would it do to the national finances if they started nicking everyone for the offence? Folks accuse speed cameras of only being about the money, this one could be exactly that. Hands in PH membership.

It's a bit like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. They were perfectly happy.

I believe in good manners, but if someone is trying to filter in after going down a closed lane they will find it hard to impossible to push in. I don't care that's petty as I see that act as less selfish than theirs.
Devil's advocate here, but how can you be sure that they haven't already been trying to move over for the past half a mile, and being meeting similar resistance from everyone in the lane behind you?Engineer792 said:

Personally I don't necessarily have too much of an issue, except for the usual caveat that electronic enforcement can only see the instant of a situation, whereas often the important part is how did the individual get themselves into that situation.
But essentially I got sick of seeing Friday nights on the M40, when they were setting up roadworks and red X flashing over lanes 2, 3 etc, complete retards jamming through at 3 figure speeds in order to barge over at the last possible second having passed at least 3 sets of lane closure signs. Cocks deserving of a good nicking.
THIS. In spades. Sitting in Lane One (the ONLY lane open), knowing that I would have to wait until each and every one of those s had pushed into the queue ahead of me before I would be able to progress the odd car length made me seeth!
I could almost empathise with WD39 and his APIS crew!
Almost!
After 3 gantries and no obvious incident it magically didn't have the lane closed marker on it anymore.

I expect the point he is making is that frequently these signs appear to be poorly managed and operated, and therefore until you can physically 'see' the reason for them being active does actually exist then you don't believe it.If these signs were better managed the compliance would increase exponentially.

greed to an extent, the old matrix to blame there but, maybe I'm special, if I see a big red cross saying lane close I assume danger to myself or others if I continue in it. I always err on that side if caution and fail to sympathize with anyone that claims a reason to ignore them
The red X is somewhat more black and white as regards compliance and usually is genuine. The myriad of other garbage on those matrices (debris/animals/pedestrians in road, fog, accident etc ) are so often rubbish, perhaps still active way after the event has passed, or active so far in advance a supertanker could stop from and reach maximum speed again before getting there that they render the signs pointless as a whole.CoolHands said:
As has been pointed out for a long time 'the system' wants to move us to a state where we can be policed by technology. Which a) means eventually we will be under scrutiny all the time (which I think is wrong) and b) means scrotes that are outside the system carry on with criminality as normal.
This. In spades. Centurion07 said:
I am prepared to admit that until about 3 years ago I was unaware the red X sign on a motorway meant it was illegal to be in that lane.
I had always thought it meant that the lane was closing, rather than actually closed, and you were able to proceed up to the obstruction.
So although I would've been in the closed lane I certainly wasn't tearing along in order to push in.
I had always assumed that to be the case since those red crosses appear 78 miles before the obstruction and therefore nobody would be stupid enough to activate them that far in advance if it meant the lane was actually closed from that first X. I do, after all, have a perfectly functioning set of eyes.

I thought that as a variable speed camera on a gantry catches the ones going above the limit, why isnt it converted to catch the red X jumpers?
OR
50yds after the gantry site 'pop up' bus type bollards which appear 30 secs after the X shows up?
Not sure if i am serious!
Seems the legislation for your first suggestion is being put in place : The Road Traffic Offenders (Additional Offences) Order 2017.OR

Your second suggestion is not yet on the cards? Perhaps automatic employment of a 'stinger' device under the gantry is the answer here?
