seems harsh cutting off 80odd homes for probably 1 or 2 yobs ... surely the poilce or PCSOs could have intervened and resolved before it got to that level
Go a tad further up the valleys and setting fire to the mountain side is a past time. No on knows anything.Don't blame posty myself.

Lovely. When I worked as a delivery driver for Dominos to top up my modest student's budget many moons ago we had few red circles on the map where we wouldn't deliver to to avoid yobs jumping on our cars and other things.Hello.
that reminds me of a mate of mine- doing the pizza delivery.
Anyway, one night the young lady who ordered the pizza, invited him in.
was "fancily dressed/partially undressed", you get the idea. gave him the big fluttery eyes............ he came in. they shared some pizza, he thought- my lucks in.
Anyway, she changed her mind and ushered him out.
when he came out, someone had pinched his pizza moped.
It had all been a ruse. the sexy ladies task had been to delay him, whilst the bike was pinched.
Anyway my nomination for "council". Scousers. Every single bloody one of them. I'm sure we'll have mentioned them before, but having just been on my hols and met a few of them. I'd genuinely forgotten about how bad the accent is, the terrible clothing choices and manners on a level of devil dogs, with the neck of a 3 year old girl called Krystel between their jaws.

I know, I know daily mail = utter council but the comments are gold. The below was a particular favourite;

"Add gender fluidity to living in Middlesbrough and being call Star Cloud, and I see no hope. Still, they're getting enough to eat."
The kid should be taken away from them, for his own good.http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-4786350/...

I'm amazed that people are donating, it was only insured third party too.
Reminds me of people who are burgled or there is flooding in their house but don't have home contents insurance because "they can't afford it" (just re-newed mine for £60 for the year) and then go to the papers with a sad face; sorry, your problem.
They never admit they can't afford it and that's not even the issue. It's because they're s and think they don't need it. Then when the inevitable happens it's always "I forgot to renew" despite the fact you don't need to do anything to renew as it's usually on a rolling contract. There's no begging, as you so charmingly put it - I suggested that if there was a way of donating then I'd happily put something toward the cost of replacing the car. Someone else, very kindly, arranged for such a method. What followed was a ringing endorsement of people's innate desire to be decent to one another - a stark contrast to the comments here.

No sympathy for people like that and begging afterwards is taking the piss.
If you genuinely can't afford contents insurance, that's different. If you can't afford to insure a Porsche, don't fking buy one.
Have you read the thread? At no point did the original poster ask for money or even hint that was what he wanted, some very kind people just thought it would be a nice gesture. If you genuinely can't afford contents insurance, that's different. No one is saying you have to donate, it’s just a kind thing to do if you are so inclined. Can’t see what’s so bad about being kind to someone that has always come across as a decent sort.
Hi guys - I'm the one who set up the fundraising page, so just thought I'd stop by and put my side of the story across. I don't actually know Escy, but I've been following his build thread with interest for over a year now, and was gutted to see all his hard work go up in flames. I hadn't even so much as posted on the thread until this weekend (I'm more of a listener than a talker!).
The reason that I set up the fund wasn't to go hounding people for money (I hate chuggers as much as the next man!), but just to give people who wanted to donate a few quid the means to do so. Before I had even thought about setting up a fund, several other people (8, I just counted) had already posted on Escy's thread offering to chip in if anyone wanted to start a collection. The longer I lurked and watched the thread, the more offers came in - I just thought it would be a shame to let all the goodwill go to waste, all for the sake of a few minutes' effort to choose a crowdfunding site and set up a page. Based on the initial responses on Escy's thread I thought we might get a few hundred quid together, and am surprised that it's already hit £1k in donations in less than two days...
I can fully understand people choosing not to donate - I'm not going to pretend the donor car/ house deposit fund trumps starving kids in Africa or finding a cure for cancer... I just saw this as an opportunity to do something nice for a fellow PHer who was going through a tough time.
Anyway, that's my two cents

This is going to sound harsh, but it is council to put your fun and hobbies before your responsibility to your kids.
Only skimmed that thread, but daughter is getting older and they are renting and wife wants to buy, and in his words iirc, he 'sold' the idea to his partner that he could get this car and then spend a few years on it and flip it for a profit. Which sounds like man maths.
Would a cheap Porsche with a diy engine swap have such a demand and command a massive premium? Other cars don't seem to. The OP said he had already undertaken other projects, so rather than having fun, he would have been better off taking on a second job/overtime and made the same amount of money perhaps as sounded like a few £k only.
Sound very harsh I know. Maybe I am wrong, and he bought the car priced at a bargain and had the margin in it.
