Got back from work today to find it missing from Purley/Kenley driveway, must have gone at some point overnight on 24th Feb or day of 25th Feb.

More info and pictures tomorrow.

  • MGC, so straight six.
  • British racing green.
  • I inherited it from my much missed grandparents, so massive sentimental value.
  • Engine had BMW fuel injectors & microsquirt ECU, probably the only fuel injected MGC in the UK. I can identify every individual component in the whole car.
  • I personally retrimmed the car in black leather with white piping.
At least 1000GBP reward for information leading to its return. This car is pretty much a unicorn, I can't believe it will disappear. If anyone can help me please get in contact asap.

Nick

PS. Also had a Cobra immobiliser linked into Microsquirt loom, so must have been towed as it would have been almost impossible to hotwire.

Thanks guys. I don't care about the money on this one; just want it back! I'd like to tap up all the classic car garages that might handle it; there's not one like it anywhere else. Not often you see a 1969 car with six fuel injectors poking into the inlet manifold!

You know all this but;
- get pics up on every Facebook group you can think of - motoring and local community
- contact MGOC
- contact all dealers/auction houses that handle that sort of car
- check whether anyone in your road has CCTV
- scour e-bay/car & classic for the coming months

Good tips, thanks. I'll be on this tomorrow. I want to get the word out to everyone that might be in the market for an MG. MGCs are rare at the best of times.

Here's a pic of an MG that's not mine, but looks the same.

Note the 'power bump', where they couldn't package the 2nd carb properly so took a mallet to the bonnet.

Mine did not benefit from wing mirrors, and had corrosion below the passenger door (next job).

Might as well post the number plate - at least that way if someone is offered the car and Googles it, this thread might come up.

Best of luck and, as others have said, leverage the power of social media. Get in touch with the local press, get it posted on every car group you can think of, and a few buy/sell pages on Facebook too. The mantra of making it "too hot to handle" has gotten results before, so it's worth the time. I'd do it ASAP.

I second that smile

My hope is that it's been picked up by a chancer; anyone who knows these cars will know it'll be almost impossible to change its identify, either in the UK or worldwide. Even the engine has identifiable marks all over it (and I won't say what they are!).

I'll try to get the word out over the local area. Apparently cars often get parked not too far away for a couple of weeks to see if they've got trackers in them. So if you know anyone in Croydon, especially garages or dealers, please let me know.

Sorry to hear this, perhaps they think that they can sell on the engine?

I hope you get the car back in one piece.

Have you put it on Retro Rides? It’s just another avenue you can add the search to. Hope you get it back!

Sorry to hear this.

I will keep an eye out for it around this way (Nottingham) and will put it out amongst my colleagues in the classic car world.

Fingers crossed for a good outcome to this!

Sorry to hear this OP. This ^ looks like worthwhile advice. Walk/drive around your area looking out for anyone with CCTV or at properties/business with a strategic location that could've seen a transport vehicle or anything suspicious and ask if they have CCTV in the time frame in question.
