As I delve deeper into this and will probably go for on/over ear rather than in ear "buds", could anyone confirm the sound quality of wireless/bluetooth ones are as good as hard wired?
I've an old set of Sony wireless headphones which sit on a "transmitter" when not in use, think they'll be older than Bluetooth. Do modern Bluetooth sets come with a transmitter to fit a 3.5mm jack socket or do I need to buy one of these as well?
Thanks
Bluetooth doesn't have the transmission capacity to relay even CD quality never mind the higher resolutions available, but they do sound good - they won't sound better than a wired connection with a decent source though. They're about ease of use and not strangling yourself, and you'll never notice the quality difference out and about with external noise, but they have downsides for TV/video due to latency issues causing lip sync issues (having the AptX LL codec capability is a must for that)
The latency of even AptX LL is enough to really mess with your head when playing. It's Low Latency, relatively speaking, but still sufficient that there is too much disconnect between me plucking a string and hearing the result.

I'm another proponent of Sony cans as the analogue input bypasses all the processing and gives you as near to zero latency as you can get.

I've bought replcement ear pads over the years without any problems though the earpad holder finally falied to close.

I think I've had these for around seven years and get used daily, I like to watch films with the sound cranked up!

I’ve got 5 different sets of Sennheiser headphones, which are all fantastic .

But the headphones I use most now are these.

https://consumer.huawei.com/en/press/news/2020/hua...

Amazingly they were free as part of an offer when I bought my son a HUAWEI laptop.

Seems they can be bought on eBay for £99.

The sound and the noise cancelling is really very good indeed.

Funny isn't it, I had a thread running on the computer forum about web cams and while the usual suspects, Logitech, were suggested, a cheap Chinese alternative apparently works better.

Think my choice is going to be between Sony which I have and Sennheiser. Not Bluetooth, a set with a transmitter and hopefully the option for hard wiring.

If you can still get the Bose QC35ii you might get them for under £200 as they've been superceded by the version 45 now.

They have a wired input too which I use with my electronic drums. The ANC still works with the wired connection and actually boosts the sound rather pleasingly. They are quiet for other people too.

If you need another wire, which would you suggest?
I lost mine soon after getting these headphones (they are brilliant) but now find I could benefit from using them wired in ,...

(sorry for the thread hijack)

I tend to agree that most cheap Chinese stuff is usually tat, but these headphones are the exception, they really are premium quality feel consider the low price, and free for me!

They also have touch gesture controls on the outside which work’s brilliantly, and seem to last for ever on a single charge, not once on a flight have they gone flat on me as long as they are fully charged before we head out.

The app works great too, with the Equalizer modes doing a great job to enhance a wide range of music when combined with the active noise cancellation.

I bought this one - available in several lengths (I went for the longest):

Quite liked the screw-on 1/4" adapter.

Beyerdynamic DT 770, Used extensively in broadcast, they are very good.

For home use you'll need the lower impedance version.
Would that be the 80ohm set?

With Black Friday coming, I'm about to press a button or pull the trigger or whatever.

To conclude, correct me if I'm wrong, most "Wireless" headphones are Bluetooth
Bluetooth is fine but there's a delay which will mess with the guitar playing through an amp.

Soundcore Q35 - BT only no cable
AKG K371-BT- seems to have reliability issues and fragile
Beyerdynamic DT770 - permanently wired which will probably be OK for 90% of the time, just need wireless if i need to go for a coffee.
Sony WH-720N - wireless & a cable but wireless is BT
Sennheiser RS175 & 195 - wireless only but by transmitter not BT
Bose QC35i & QC45i- wired & wireless but BT

Looking like the Sennheiser set but any further thoughts?
Thanks

Aren't those Sennheisers over your budget though? Have you considered the Sony 1000XM4's ....................

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-WH-1000XM4-Cancellin...

I know there's a newer 5 version but they're not regarded as much of improvement. In fact I've had my 3's for about 5 years and use them every day in work, Wifey has the 4's and I hear a slight improvement but no point in me binning my 3's.

£179 Richer Sounds
The Sony ones are BT but apparently it's "posh BT" they apparently have the option of wired with a 3.5mm Jack so yes worth a thought as I like Sony stuff, Thanks

I have the XM4's, they're very very good. I obviously paid full price when they first came out, I think they're a bargain now at under £200. I did think about upgrading them to the XM5's but tbh, the 4's are so good I can't see the logic in doing so.

We are not so enlightened as you Dave bow

But I read this review and must say they do sound very impressive .............

https://homestudiobasics.com/hifiman-he400se-revie...

But for my day to day use (in a noisy workshop) noise cancelling is a must.

Edit: Well worth a look if they suit your needs.

I bought a set of 1more Sonoflow for about £55.

Can be used wired or wirelessly (and support LDAC).

Noise cancelling and sound better than their price.

These can do a bit of everything.

Sony WH-1000XM4

Currently £197
Could anyone confirm please

a) there'd be no "lag" if I used these bluetooth to a guitar amp
b) there's a "hard wire" option using a 3.5mm jack (which would presumably avoid any bluetooth lag).
c) are they genuinely better than the Sennheisers
Thanks

a) There may or may not be some lag. I get a tiny bit of lag sometimes but not others.
b) Yes, there’s a hard wire cable with them. Standard 3.5mm
c) Subjective, IMO, yes.
