As my brother said, make sure you pay the $30 for the inspection report, you wouldn't want there to be something wrong with it!

M42; taxi parked in lane 1 with no lights on at 2am; unlit section of road…

Lucky for the driver he was standing on the hard shoulder to spectate as I turned his toyota avensis estate into a hatchback

A total non-event but it is now a Cat N thanks to Hastings and their nominated "repairer" who managed to pad an estimate up to over £2,000. banghead

On the positive side I got some cash in the bank and still have it.
For stuff like this, I wouldn't even bother with insurance. They will only stitch you up with Cat N or similar which affects the future saleability of the vehicle, thus value, but they don't care as long as they make a profit for their shareholders from your premium.

About 10 years ago I had a bumper scuffed by someone in a car park, they just drove off. No idea who it was, would have had to have claimed from my own insurance. Decided it was cheaper to have a bodyshop repair it when convenient to me, paid from my own pocket, than it was to pay the excess and then also have to declare a non fault claim with associated insurance premium rises for the following 5 years. Never got insurance involved; life was simpler.

My wife and I got rear ended on the M6 last winter and although the car was repaired through insurance, the monkeys are still trying to process the claim and recover the costs from the third party. It's not difficult, they're just inept.
Bumper, spray, fit. Easy £1K.

Low loader pickup and drop off. £200

Hire car for x days.

I can see how it went that way.

OP could have just got chipaway to repair and not involve insurers

True, but it was a non-fault claim and paid for by the insurer of the car that hit me so I couldn't see any reason to pay anything!

Why did you go to the insurance company with this? Seems odd as the damage is minimal. Was it all part of a bigger claim?

TBF I had to inform the ins-co about a broken door mirror (not claimed for) just incase the dozy old bat who hit it in her brand-new car did the same and then I'd be penalised for keeping shtum curse

It was, of course, rebuilt, but trying to outbrake the GT Maestro, Ray Bellm, going into a chicane, was very foolish

I am pretty sure that same car had a previous big crunch at Goodwood - I have a pic of that somewhere.

120 mph, and the bonnet of the car in front flies off straight towards your head. You swerve, hit the armco, bounce across to the other armco, then the car rolls and rolls, trapping the driver under the car now on fire. Luckily another driver stops and puts the fire out and with the aid of others saves the driver and his only injury was a broken collar bone. Le Mans Classic 2004. And if you thought the GT40 photos were frightening, prepare yourselves.

Manifold completely ripped off

Front chassis

The fire is now out

Some panel beating reequired.

We searched for parts, but never found a torsion bar. Astonishingly, this car was rolling and ready to race a year later.

Was it a standard Maestro or the MG Turbo as I don’t remember a GT model?
