The true mileage is stored in the gearbox and other areas afaik so would bypass a mileage blocker; perhaps take it to Audi and get them to check using their software.

TX.

The latest /better mileage blockers claim to get around this . Worth a look though which I plan to do.

To the OP - I would say don’t beat yourself up about it too much, even if it had a blocker put on, how much mileage would they have been able to put on in a year or so? 20/30k?

As you bought approved Used, just enjoy it whilst in warranty and get rid of it before it finishes. The amount of cars being clocked nowadays its unreal and it could happen to any one of us. They clocking super cars and hyper cars seriously for fun.

I when buying a car look at the mileage because the mindset i believe of someone clocking a car will want to show as little as possible each year so if i was for example to buy a 5 series diesel, i’d want it to be at least driven 20k miles a year with a yearly dealer service etc so a 3 year old would have 60k etc. if someone was using a blocker, they’d probably only show 7/8k a year or max 10k miles etc.

Like i said, yours is a 22 reg so even if a blocker was used, i don’t think it would be serious mileage anyway. You could look for signs of wear and tear etc - that surely should give it away if it’s only done 6500 miles.

Sorry to hear about your problems.

I have a B9 S5 which I know isn’t the same but has similar displacement and the same drivetrain/weight.

I’ve been moaning about fuel economy recently as the traffic has been so bad. They are not great in traffic at all but I would suggest that 8mpg is impossible over a long period of time.

Mine has been getting 15mpg in this heavy traffic day idling crawling etc. This is the worst I have seen:

But as I say whilst this would be possible on a bad day I really don’t think it is possible long term unless it’s sat revving its tits off.

Mileage blockers are a real concern but you’d have thought the Audi computers would flag a discrepancy like that. I’d personally speak to the sales manager, say you are extremely concerned that the car has been fitted with a mileage blocker and would like to return it or at least get them to check it (might even be worth paying for your own check).

Being on low miles presumably the tyre age matches the car, ish. At least is not newer than the car? Easy to check.

For what it’s worth audi have been really good for after sales, but it seems from speaking with others that it really depends what dealership you use.

My issue was I missed the bonnet had been resprayed - in the wrong colour. I test drove the car without the intention of buying it, so didn’t pay close attention. They dropped the price a month later so I left a deposit. It took a calm but strong approach from me, after they initially did the “no I really can’t see the problem it looks fine to me” dance which I managed to shut down…

“No Mr Joropug I think you must have better eyes than me the paint looks fantastic!”

Don’t get an aircon bomb.
Get it properly cleaned by a car detailer using an ozone machine, that will eliminate the odors.

Mileage blockers, fairly easy to tell if fitted.

8mpg sounds low, what was the car used for? If hire car then maybe? Has it sat idle for long periods?
How to tell if there were fitted? I have already been to my local tuners garage and we've gone through all the modules/ECUs and milage is matching

I have no idea about the previous owner as I purchased the car from an Audi dealer.

Does the V5 not show the previous owner, or did Audi register it ?

Well, all I can report is that air-con had a slight musty smell. Used the linked product, and it's been fresh since. Worth a tenner in my mind. YMMV etc.

A lot of nearly new cars sold at dealers are their former courtesy cars / demonstrators.

For that reason, it doesn't seem impossible that every driver that has got in it every few days has thought wow RS4 and driven it like a real pilot.....I would probably do the same!

Might be worth asking them who owned it before, was it a courtesy car etc, I think they are obliged to tell you if asked directly.

It would help explain the smoking issue also, if it's only apparent under certain conditions every so often. The dealers would only ever spend a couple of minutes in it at a time, moving it round the carpark etc, so would never notice it themselves, or at the time when that particular driver returned it on that evening.

Even if it had been driven in this way though, I don't think it would bother me too much. Something I've learnt since buying my 3.5L SLK350, it's actually impossible to thrash it for more than few seconds without being at 100mph, or driving like you're playing GTA, so it's self limiting really, you can't really put your foot down! It's impossible to actually really thrash it to the point of taking it to it's limits and endangering it, your licence will give up the ghost, long before the car does!
