Hope so as will mean I’m with a podium placing team or the FIA garage. Although you see and learn more with those towards the back of the grid, if you’re with a team not fighting for anything or otherwise in a good end of season mood, you can have some very good/insightful conversations with the engineers and even the drivers.

However those days are pretty much gone post covid, the role is more limited to observing from outside the garage. F2 is much more hands on.

@sandpitsteve you should consider getting involved next year if you fancy it, very easy to do so with an introduction.
Sounds like fun! I’m actually volunteering for marshalling at Dubai Autodrome this season, so might get involved that way in a year or two. Will DM you later.

Have fun with the micrometer this weekend!

Logan Sargeant to bring out the safety car on lap 53 just after both RBs have passed the pits. Debris is cleared away in time for one racing lap at the end, Lewis having bolted on some fresh softs during the SC period. The race director calls "whoever wins is WDC" and Lewis finally gets number 8.
Reasonable people might think that unfair.

In this case "Any" will mean "All", and the lapped cars will prevent the SC ending until we end under SC.... (*)

We will likely bump into each other at some point then.

Albeit I have been rejected as chief scrute for ngk this year, maybe due to my recommending that 2 teams should not start on safety grounds which created quite a furore. Small matter of fire extinguishers and circuit breakers not working….

Will be at the historic if you’re flagging that?

We might cross paths then Steve. I am helping for the third year carrying out the technical inspections of the motorbikes, riders gear and in race control during the bike racing.

This race has somewhat grown on me, after double points, and you know..

Track changes were good last year, good test now.

It Ferrari can lose the drag, possible pole, if McLaren get the area balance right possible win.

End of an Era for Tost at AT too, from the Minardi days 2x wins and 5x podiums.

Thanks again PIAP for this year’s threads, some of the most read on this forum I imagine.

This is a race I always used to attend but work has kept me away this year and as we’re sadly back to the useless middle of the day times I’ll be relegated to watching on catch-up. I much prefer the 4am UK time sessions as it means I can watch live!

I suspect this race will be more of the same but I’m hoping for McLaren success and a belter of a finish for Alonso would make me happy too!

See you all next year!

TEN replacement rookie drivers for the FP1 session, many of whom are also in the F2 session afterwards.

Given the limited testing opportunities these days, it’s a good rule that each driver has to give up at least one session during the year.

Will be watching intently to see what happens between AT and Williams. I'd imagine both engines to be turned up to 11 and rumours of AT bringing upgrades to this race to knock Williams off 7th spot!

Can't see them getting the minimum 7 points they need - Williams would be better off keeping their engines at 9.5 i think unless really needed.

Cars on track and I'm looking forward to see if at least one of the test drivers can finish above the regular team drivers. Drugovich on Stroll maybe?

Logan Sargeant the first driver to go and see the stewards after the session, dawdling on the racing line between the final two corners and nearly taking out Jack Doohan who was on a fast lap behind.

All those rookies, and it’s one of the regular drivers who’s going to get in trouble.

Interesting one, Red Bull rear suspension last week, updated floor this week, id imagine Red Bull management would want them 7th for the extra tunnel time.

The tailwind out of the last corner is causing some fun. Surprised no-one’s binned it yet, there’s been 4 or 5 of them with armfuls of opposite lock.

They need to look at the windsock next to the medical helipad, which is on the outside of the last corner.

Better to finish behind in 8th then if they want more tunnel time.

This always blows my mind. Hundreds of people in a team and no one bothers to warn the drivers who is coming up on a flying lap behind you!

wouldn't be surprised if there aren't more mistakes/slip-ups due to team fatigue
