Sign of times sadly. It was going to happen sooner or later.

Even Pistonheads has become a joke. The slogan "SPEED MATTERS" has been dropped for a snowflake political correct 'Stop dreaming Start driving'

Can Top Gear just go back to the very old format in a half hour slot?

Just an informative show, someone testing cars, giving honest reviews, but maybe less stuffy/ olde BBC and with a bit of track action, so they can tell you how a car handles/performs.

None of this scripted family entertainment nonsense.

The car is the second biggest purchase most people make, so it does deserve some sort of consumer show.

I agree - and Harris would be the ideal chap to front a re-birthed show with a proper focus on the cars and not fking about.
I personally thought he was (is) very impressive, and an absolute natural on camera...
Agreed, seems a bit dark recently.....needs a slap on the ass and crack on..... he's popular and we'll be watching!

I'm not surprised especially now the BBC seems to be chasing (and failing) the Millennial/Gen X audience.

Though when Freddy appeared at the cricket still walking wounded I expected that to be it for TG. I felt he, McGuinness and Harris had gelled as a trio, but that was to the detriment of the cars themselves as it was clear Paddy and Freddie had no clue. I grew up on CHM Top Gear and followed them onto TGT, with that likely concluding too, it's the end of an era, especially in such a traditional medium.

Youtube is great for reviews granted, but there's definitely a gap in the market.

For me top gear has lacked the genuine authentic childlike enthusiasm for cars we all share for some time. Probably it lost it towards the end of the Clarkson era.

There was always though a lot of with in it that Clarkson drove out himself.

There is room for a car show where it’s adventurous, non adenoidal and properly produced. It probably needs to feature more BEVs as like it or not that’s the future.

I’d like to see enthusiasts but not obsessive retentives that some of us can be present it.

It needs three enterprising souls to bung some media undergrads a few grand to produce and film a show - buy a prelude a ST220 and a Phaeton and drive through Sweden to the artic circle and do a feature on the new Caterham BEV. Pitch it at Ch4.

I just think the whole thing is completely played out.
There’s a few decent YouTube channels for people who are actually interested in cars.

There was a magical few TG series where the love of cars and some fun escapades actually gelled in a way nobody could really have had a clue would work. It just did.

Then even the original cast struggled to keep it going and those that followed had absolutely no chance.

No problem. Motorweek, a far more informative and entertaining show for the past 43 years, carries on.

Think that’s pretty accurate. Unfortunately I don’t think there is much appetite for car shows (or entertainment shows featuring cars) so YouTube it is.

Come on, there’s still Strictly, Antiques Roadshow, and Ru Paul’s Drag Race, what more could any bloke want?

You are right there.

But surely with the BBC's resources...as basic as it sounds, decent cameras and a bit of production expertise they could make something that is considerably more polished/ focused/ well made, that YouTubers can't do, on a reasonable budget.

Between all the various car related shows I can find on Quest, Yesterday, et al, plus some I watch on Youtube, I haven't missed Top Gear as I rarely watched it in recent years. I usually have a look for something on streaming, if not live TV if I fancy watching some car related stuff and it's never hard to find. I got a bit tired of the stunts and caravan racing, etc that they were doing long before the end of Clarkson era.

Still, it's the end of an era (I don't believe it will come back personally), but there are plenty of repeats around for those who want to watch them again.

I am intrigued to see what Chris’s Harris and the BBC have in store in the future.
Chris Harris is heavily involved with the Collecting Cars auction platform which also has loads of content on YouTube including a fantastic weekly podcast which is well worth a listen/watch.

He’s also just released an autobiography.
the autobiography is free as an audiobook (narrated by Chris) on Spotify (if you pay for spotify), and was a good listen on the way home from the ring last week

Yes the Clarkson, May, Hammond episodes were getting pretty stupid.

Then we got Chris Evans chucking up after going round a track with Sabine (RIP), Matt Le Blanc, Rory Bremner and Chris Harris who is actually a real petrolhead.

But I thought it got better with Chris, Freddy and Paddy - they seemed to develop a bit of camaraderie trying to help each other unlike the Clarkson, May, Hammond era when they would sabotage each other!

Such a shame about Freddie's accident, but racing a 3 wheeler looks like an accident waiting to happen to me.

I just hope Chris Harris can find a niche somewhere.

Towards the end Top Gear was extremely tedious and not very entertaining imho.
Chris Harris is obviously a great driver but I seriously went off him after following his Instagram account for a while- if anyone dare be critical or slight him in a post he would sometimes slaughter them in response- he came across as a bully and not very pleasant.
Same here. I went off him after the whole Litchfield/JWW debacle. Using his position as a BBC employee and public figure to go out and try to destroy the reputation of a YouTuber over a private business offer. Bullying at its finest.

I wonder how he would have felt if someone tried to ruin 'Chris Harris on Cars' when that was his occupation/passion.

Who pays the licence fee?

And subsidise the Government News? (We mock other countries for having state media news. And if you ask any foreigner who has come to this country, you'll find that they have the same opinion of BBC News.)

Don't pay he licence and they send you a letter every fortnight. You ignore it and then once in a decade someone comes round to your house. You close the door in their face, and they're powerless to do anything else.

(TV detector vans simply don't exist: nobody's ever seen one, nobody's ever been caught by one, nobody's ever worked in one. Plus they've been telling us that they have that technology since the 80s.)

I read a piece by an ex-collector who said that the only way they ever caught people was if those people were so obedient to 'authority' that they said 'yes' to the question, 'Can I come in and see if your TV is on?', and then it was.
What the hell are you babbling about?

No-one called people snowflakes and no-one was crying. Being wrong on both points makes you look stupid.

The slogan 'Speed Matters' being dropped from merchandise is an own goal for PH. Most proper car nuts give it only scant attention these days.

If I may, this little bit of historic Clarkson will melt a few snowflakes....
