RE: Alfa Romeo GT Blackline | Shed of the Week
Discussion
Even when my gt blew up in lane 4 of the M6 during Friday morning rush hour at knutsford services... I still loved it.
Made the traffic report and southbound was shut, so was the entrance/exit of the services.
Stunning in red with black leather.
I have had 8 GTV's, 2.0/3.0, preferred the gt diesel, also incredibly practical.

Great cars. Ran one as a daily from 60k to 130k for 5 years. Apart from front suspension, already identified as service items but a driveway job, and usual service bits it was absolutely reliable. Mine was also a JTS and used a bit of oil even at 10/60. But nothing failed, never failed to get me home and even the air con still worked.
They are a good drive with v pointy steering, surprisingly comfortable over long distances and have a massive boot, especially with the rear seat down.
Sold it to a local chat, who wanted a weekend Alfa. Still see it occasionally. Miss it and one of the better cars that I have owned. At that price, if honest, a v good deal I’d say.

Love the Alfa GT. For a parts bin car full of 156 and 147 bits, it is a really nice package. Had an 08 Lusso in Nero Anthracito with the same JTS 2.0.
Loved the look of the car (although agree the Brera interior is better), practicality, and ability to eat up miles, and really nice on a flowing road. Not a sports car by any measure, and the gearbox was proper old school Italian, needing to be gently encouraged through the gears… It was incredibly rust free and resistant which was a pleasant surprise too.
The engine though was a nightmare - no end of problems, and even on a good day, at 160ish horses (which I think was an ambitious estimate) it was disappointingly underpowered, drank like a sailor, and was pretty poor on emissions. The (also 08) Civic Type R (FN2) I ran at the same time (and still own) offered 40 extra horses, far better economy and bullet-proof reliability out of the same 2.0 litres.
Would love another GT but it’d have to be a Busso V6 one (although that’s not a shed-money proposition). And my wife would leave me. So I guess that’s an issue…
Great shed though - even with the JTS time-bomb.
