I feel exactly the same way, and not just as a car, but as an ownership proposition.I've tried VW Group, Ford and Alfa Romeo over the last few years, but as a complete car and support if / when things go wrong, BMW have been right up there. No matter what I've bought I've ended up back in a BMW.
Case in point, just sold a new Mustang GT as it had the build quality of a 90s Kia, no thought and effort put into the interior, handled as standard like a wardrobe going down a hill, and had a serious failure within two months of buying it. Every area of Ford failed me during the repair process, which took almost four weeks. Really took the shine off what should have been a great car to run.
So I'm very much looking forward to my M340i touring arriving in March. Had M340is before and end up coming back to them as for me they're the perfect all-rounder. This will be my first ever estate car as well.

I’ve had my M340i Touring for about a month now and I truly believe that it is all the car I am ever likely to need. In the past I have had a 3 series saloon and a 3 series Touring, followed by a 5 series touring, but the new car is way better in all respects and is truly epic on all kinds of roads. I always liked the 2006 E90 330d we had. Weirdly I didn't like the 2006 E90 330i that I had after it as much though. The 330d was much more playful lower down the revs, and the extra torque over the 330i suited it I thought. Plus the extra torque in the 330d did a better job of helping to hide the kerbweight of the car a bit for me as well. Saying that it's loads better than the 2011 335i coupe manual I drove recently which was a bit of a disaster.
Having thought about lots of different cars, I keep coming back to an early E90 320d as my perfect cheapo family car.

No, sorry. It was always, without fail, a rusty CV joint that expanded and caused the trigger ring to either split or swell and destroy the sensor.
Despite the repetitive issues I have to concede that BMW's do drive better than just about everything else. It's the one thing they do really well. They have lost a lot of the old character but so has everything else.
They could build them to be Toyota reliable but I doubt they'd sell many more as a result.

Summed up nicely there. Thread over. I like the older BMWs for their solid build, well, solid 'feel' at least.
I like the newer BMWs for the ZF8 speed and the ability to fine tune them to your tastes.
I don't and never have liked BMW parts pricing though. £73 for a 330d air filter is a tad rich by anyone's standards.
I don't and never have liked BMW dealer showroom staff. Arrogant and indifferent. Even worse than Audi dealerships for that.
I don't and never have liked incompetent BMW dealership technicians, especially the guy who wrecked one of my brake calipers during it's service.
Love the way they drive though, and they are p1ss easy to work on, which is all that matters really.
Shocked that my BMW required attention this week - pulled out my drive and got the full Xmas tree on the dash - ABS, DTC, Hill start assist etc.
Turns out a £60 ABS Sensor had gone, add a couple of hours of labour and the lights went away.
Still I'm deeply annoyed my 15 year old car with 175k on the clock went wrong.
