RE: Renault Megane R.S. 300 Trophy-R | Spotted

Who wants a FWD hatch with no rear seats, especially a French one? (Well, apart from me... )
The R26.R was very unfashionable and depreciated heavily. Later on, it became sought after when people realised what they were missing.
I suspect The Last of Renaultsport's Nürburgring FWD Specials" will be similarly sought after by enthusiasts in 20 years.
Let them depreciate a little more, then buy one. I think it'll be a very shrewd buy for an enthusiast in another 5 years or so.

Its a bit sad they went from wild cars like this to absolutely nothing, RIP Renault sport.
Where Renault (and Ford) left off with their great hot hatches, Toyota has picked up the slack and is making even better, faster and more reliable hot hatches, and in todays money they are cheaper. Win win, unless you need to buy French!I'm OCD regarding kerbing wheels (only ever done in twice in 20 years of driving). Even so I'm not sure I could drive what is a £35-40k hot hatch with such expensive wheels.
Bad enough thinking a scuff on a normal wheel would be £100 for a refurb. Presumably can't repair these and it would be the case of £2.5k for a new rim? Madness.

Most people with average wealth and a couple of kids will be happy with the regular Trophy. Anyone with more wealth and able to live with two seats is probably going to go straight to a 2 seat sports car.
They make great weekend track toys for people with a couple of sports cars in their garage already, or an ultimate goal for a die-hard Renaultsport fan, but that's a relatively modest pool of potential customers.

Some of the comments on here, unbelievable lol. Who gives a flying f*ck what the bay looks like, the exterior and rest of car looks cracking and I assure you the last thing on your mind when you’re pushing it to the limit on a circuit is the appearance of the engine bay.
People who claim these are not worth the money have clearly never driven a top of the line Megane or are just devoid of the ability to feel joy in a motoring capacity. I owned the Mk3 Trophy then moved to a Trophy R after a year. Then onto a Lotus Elise Cup which is arguably one of the fastest circuit cars you can buy without spending super car money. Fantastic capable machine and very very rapid but the Trophy R would’ve given it a serious run for its money and cross country on regular roads was a better car. Extremely focused with fantastic suspension and a car that you literally feel the brilliance of as soon as you settle in and start to manipulate the controls.
Boy racer stripes have always divided opinion but it’s a Renaultsport trademark on their flagship track focused vehicles so either stop crying about it or just have them removed. Not hard!
I love the look of this one with black wheels. I’d buy it in a heartbeat if I had the cash sitting around.

A £65,000 electric appliance is not a hot hatch. It's a serious performance car. It's also unaffordable for a good percentage of people unless it's your company car. A hot hatch should be the attainable giant killer. I feel like so many of those epic cars now are heading for finacially unobtainable territory. I've been lucky enough to own a few hot Clios and Imprezas, a Mk1 MX5 and a string of 6 cyl BMWs, but as I sit here at 42 years old, I don't think I could justify buying any of them back now.
Wonder what the market will be like for 10-15 year old EVs?
