1.0 Ecoboost Remaps ?

Shouldn’t be a big issue with the six speed box.. the ib5 is more fragile though.
The IB5 is sweet shifting, but it's never been particularly tough. Even in the 1.7 Puma, Ford had to use a torque limiter in 1st and 2nd to protect the 'box from hard launches, and for the Racing Puma, 1st and 2nd gears were shot-peened to withstand the extra loads. That car 'only' made 155 bhp and 162Nm. Most of the larger engined FWD Fords used the MTX75 box which was far stronger (but also heavier). The remapping industry likes to trot out its standard "detuned for low grade fuel / harsh operating conditions" line to explain how they can safely boost the power of engines, but always seems to forget about the transmission. It is really common to find remaps that go beyond the torque rating of the gearbox, but nobody seems to care.

Just bumping this rather than starting a new thread.
If the 100/125/140 engines are all the same does it matter which bluefin you use? Why does the 100 bluefin only take it up to 140 when the 140 bluefin takes it to 160 ish?
I suspect that whilst the map may work, there will be checks on data in the ecu to ensure the right map is applied to the correct engine code.If the 100/125/140 engines are all the same does it matter which bluefin you use? Why does the 100 bluefin only take it up to 140 when the 140 bluefin takes it to 160 ish?
The engines do have some differences, well one I am aware of which is the materials used for the turbo.
I would only use the correct map.
Ours is still running fine three years on, we did have an issue passing the mot emissions but an Italian tune up sorted that, had been doing short runs and then I took it the 200 yards to the MOT place from cold, I did remove the map but I really don’t think it was that as it had passed an mot with it on last year.
My wife still loves it and thinks it is plenty fast enough, it was 100 bhp and that wasn’t quite enough, she is t into numbers but the map took it from being less than she wants to enough.
I agree- the emissions test can be " a bit of a challenge" and the guy had to run it 2-3 times to get it to pass 2 years ago. If you haven't done a few longer runs, this causes the issue. I also did an 'Italian tune up' on my fifth MOT and all was grand.
A few things to bear in mind - I used Celtic Tuning and with 97 RON fuel you are looking at between 157-160bhp output from the engine dependant on operating conditions.
Mine is running fine after several years and 50k miles - just keep the car regularly serviced.
I did have a manufacturer recall and they wiped the remap and put back to stock a few months back, highly irritating. But an oversight on my behalf, as I should have let them know to leave.
Any other questions let me know. thanks

Hi Been thinking of remapping a 100hp Fiesta 2019, just a bit concerned about the increased torque on transmission its about 30% for a bluefin. From my days in car industry I remember getting more hp with a turbo was relatively easy but the problem is durability of gearbox.
I'd like to just get a mild tune eg the Ford 140hp map assuming they work on the safe side re torque but can't see anyone selling this as big numbers seem the sellling point.

Sort of answering my own question found this link with the performance increase I'm looking for - not sure if its for a 100hp but it claims to keep Ford warantee and keep torque to 214Nm. Only problem I'm not in Uk, I think I may also need something reversable for Spanish MOT (ITV) ? So if mountune did a bluefin type version of same performance..... I'll keep searching/waiting.

My 2019 ST line (also the 100hp version) is mapped with Pumaspeed and comes with a handheld tool so you can map it or remove it yourself. https://www.mountunestore.com/products/mk8-fiesta-...
Really good performance gains too. Up to 170bhp on good petrol.
The gearboxes on these are a lot stronger the the old 5 speeds and you shouldn’t see any issues unless you’re launching the car by dumping the clutch every time you stop

I’m looking at buying a Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost, probably 2015 onwards, to replace my 2004 Mini Cooper S JCW due to poor mpg.
My commute to work and back is 25 miles each day, mainly very slow motorway traffic on the M60, and the Mini gives me 22-24mpg.
I am hoping to get 40mpg on a heavy traffic motorway commute, do you think that is possible??
Looking at all Ecoboost Fiestas: 100/125/140 HP versions and maybe the red/black editions, although trying to keep my budget to about £7.5k so red/black may be just out of reach.
Any advice/thoughts/suggestions welcome.

Hi Guys,
New to the forum, but thought i'd 'chip' in on this thread.
I have a 2014 1.0 Ecoboost Focus 125 bhp stock, which has been remapped to 158 bhp by Celtic Tuning. I specifically had it done just as the vehicle went out of the Ford base warranty and would likely go with this approach in the future. I also own the car outright its not on PCH or PCP. I have had the remap now since Aug 2017. The remap took me a couple of days to get used to in terms of how it performed under certain driving conditions. I had the rev limiter extended to 7k RPM too which helps with holding the power on longer overtakes or motorway. Minimal change in mpg with city driving and slightly better on longer motorway runs when driving at ~70 mph can get it to 43.
I have noticed that when driven hard the engine is certainly put under additional pressure, a slightly subjective assessment, but I can tell when I park up the amount of heat sitting in the engine bay and fan running longer to cool on engine switch off etc. I have recently had to replace my coolant reservoir cap due to degraded performance of the unit, car has done 37k. I am not sure if this was a direct link to the remap and additional temp/pressure created or just needed replacing due to simple wear and tear. I have heard these can go. FYI my car was just out of the <2014 DEGAS hose recall as it had been fitted with the newer hose units.
I have also had to replace brake pads sooner than expected due to higher speed to braking ratio with the additional power, went with Brembo's.
To summarise, I would certainly recommend the remap by this tuner, cost £360 inc VAT and took about 2 hours. There is a noticeable difference in power and pulling torque on overtakes and makes the car (with its weight) hard to keep up with at times, even by more warmer hatch standards. It can surprise certain drivers when you get a mark on them.
So.. a few years on, how is/was the car? I have the 2014 125 and about to book in with Celtic. Would love to hear how it lasted. New to the forum, but thought i'd 'chip' in on this thread.

Hey guys, I see this isn’t a really active post anymore but I’m investigating before I decide whether to remap. I’ve had this 99bhp 66 plate for 3 months now and I love how it drives only had a crappy 03clio before so I guess anything would feel amazing but I want to get a little extra power out of it and I probably wouldn’t have the fiesta for longer than a year. Two mechanics I’ve spoken to said that the engine is too small to handle a remap and my brother in law says he’s known people that’s remapped their EcoBoost and the engine failed. I am looking for evidence that it actually can’t handle the remap online because all I see online is that they can get these ridiculous boosts of 60bhp but that just seems to good to be true and will kill the car. So does anyone have any experience with a remapped EcoBoost 1.0 fiesta?

As with most things, it depends: the EcoBoost engine is capable of more power, Ford themselves offer higher power versions with little change to the engines internals, as I understand it. However a poor remap may cause damage; & the high power versions are torque limited in first & second gear, to protect the gearbox. It's always worth making sure the car is in the best state before attempting to increase the power, as it may highlight any weaknesses. CBoardy said:

Late to the party here but i'm on my 3rd 1.0 Fiesta Ecoboost due to swapping to "faster"/"family" cars then back.First one was a black edition 140 remapped with bluefin - went well but after the remap would intermittently go into "limp" mode but minus any dash lights. Basically would loose full power on very hard acceleration. Annoying but very intermittent so not a massive problem. Owned that for 8 months
Second one was a 125 remapped with Bluefin - same limp mode issues as above but these went after fitting a Forge intercooler. Owned that for 18 months and no issues
Current one is a red edition with Bluefin - again same limp issues until fitting the same intercooler. 14 months in on this one so far.
Conclusion i came to was the bluefin remap was "fine", just the standard intercooler can't keep the remapped 1.0 cool enough when booting it repeatedly so guessing the ecu knocks the power down. You can tell Bluefin have tried to minimise this issue as the map is very rich so they probably inject more fuel to try and keep engine temps down. So you will really need to budget for an aftermarket intercooler on any remap in my opinion.
I have had no issues with the gearboxes in either car except the current one, although 4th-3rd is very notchy due to the previous owner, so not really remap related.
I upgraded the brakes to st180 on all cars, although the standard ones are good enough to cope with more power if bleed properly and in good nick.
The biggest issue (other than the woeful standard intercooler) on the Fiesta is the 1.0 suspension cant cope with more power. Its so soft and wooley it feels like the car wont turn in sometimes or loose traction on hard cornering. Even accelerating hard will cause the front end to lift/bob about. So really lowering and better shocks are required too. I usually fit eibach and bilstein shocks but the last 2 have also had a rear anti roll bar. Only with all that would i say the car handles decently!

If it helps, we’ve run a standard 125 bhp Fiesta for 9 years and 65k (it’s a 2014 car with 77k on the clock). We’ve never seen a check engine light or had limp home so the could well be due to the remap. I believe there was a 140 bhp standard tune version released by most were the 100 or 125 bhp versions.
I really liked my '16 1.0 125 Zetec S Fiesta - a combination of easy driving, fun driving and fruggleness.
I did buy a Mountune airbox / K&N filer for it which fits the 1.0 and the 1.6 ST but never fitted it. May help with breathing?
If anyone wants it for a few beer tokens then just say as it's been sitting the garage for years doing nothing.
