Spent a few hours on my convertible putting new front control arms on, tightened up the front nicely, they'd been on the to do list for a while.
Cam covers gaskets plugs and oil change the next things on the list.
Partly bumping in case anyone wanted to dabble into the manual 645 market, as there is currently a very cheap one (not without issues) on the usual sites.
Apparently I can't have 3!
Hopefully it'll be a painless sale, old BMWs don't attract the best buyers unfortunately. Someone needs to get in now before prices rocket.Cam covers gaskets plugs and oil change the next things on the list.

My control arms are still in a box in the car. Now the weather's a bit better I really need to get on with it.

Mine may lack a V8 and that gorgeous red interior... It may not run or have achieved the stated 40mpg.
I still think it's a total babe.
Yours has a lovely colour combination and and nice to see someone actually getting work done to their car. Hopefully I can take inspirationI still think it's a total babe.
I did fit a 545i short shifter which has moved the knob rearwards nicely and is a decent bit longer in throw so that's nice. Super rare Hartge version now available.

I really should just buy it, I think I'll kick myself down the line, but then perhaps they just stay unloved and I can get a 'spare' coupe with the nicer seats etc for peanuts in the next 12-24 months. I SEE IT'S SOLD on ebay!!My control arms are still in a box in the car. Now the weather's a bit better I really need to get on with it.
Re the control arms, my main advice would be to really make a good effort to clean the exposed threads on the hub joint. As you have to use a 40 torx to stop the ball joint spinning and a spanner I found the nut bound up quite a bit (had to keep backing it off as I was conscious of the torx rounding off if I forced it) Perhaps a tiny bit of heat would help (I didn't use any) to clear the old thread locking plastic.
Basically I spent a long time on these, I even got the nut finger tight for a part of the way but as it got level with end of the thread it really starting binding, lots of penetrating fluid, wire brush on a drill, quarter turns back and forth and a fine screw driver to clean the threads (if you had the correct die I suspect that would make it a piece of cake to clean up and remove the nut?)

What?
I went with some Meyle HD arms as per your recommendation Thanks
Did you fit these arms yet?
I saw a YouTube about some guys fitting an ESS supercharger to a 645 and it got me thinking about You. I'm not posting any links because such a thing would be a childish and stupid suggestion and I know you are none of these things.

Think I've seen the supercharged one and I do occasionally look out for used kits, but that's very much me dreaming. The new kits cost several multiples of the car. Mostly at the moment, I'm thinking 4 pot front brakes from an F30 and a 3.62 LSD (If I can find a cheap but good one) would really improve it.
But that's no use on a car that currently only move around the driveway.

d that is my campervan has taken all my time and money recently (brake overhaul, new cylinder head)
Yeah I have a Van which has become my most spendy vehicle. It isnt a full on camper van. It just has a heater and some 240v but no real furniture fitted. I think I should just sell it really. I've always wanted a Van as they are useful but it's just been a drain on my finances and my enthusiasm is waning fast. Mine has had almost all the common Sprinter faults which has cost me about 3 grand so far as I refuse to work on it myself when I have cars needing my attention.![](/inc/images/censored.gif)
Replacement Prop - was banging around
New Inlet Manifold - they're made of plastic
ABS pump refurb
Aux belt and a pulley
Some bushes and what not

I'm very annoyed that after bunch of work mine's got a cracked head. Sadly I don't have a garage that I trust locally and nor do I want to spend the money, but I dod get a lot of satisfaction out of doing thing properly and reversing 35 years of bodges as I go.

Just bumping this (Woody, how is the car doing?) I probably paid a little over the odds but it's had a huge engine refresh done on it a few years back which I'm hoping means it'll be leak free.
Finally uploaded the video the previous owner gave me of the refresh booklet. Story is the guy was a big 6 series fan had a M6 and refreshed this for his dad who then after a while couldn't get in/out of it easily, guy I bought it from knew this guy and bought it as in his words he'd never get the chance/be brave enough to buy something like this without knowing it had been reworked. The booklet seems a above and beyond thing to do and so fits with the story, so I'm taking it it was done with love/dedication (well aware I could be wrong!)At the very least it has all new, valve seals, chain timing guides, gaskets, clutch and flywheel etc etc
