Ignoring the hygene comments, if its from a neutral base; my 10 year nicks either my Sauvage Elixor or Creed. The fker goes straight past the cheaper daily stuff like Aqua Di Gio.

8 quid! I’ve been using Nivea “cool kick” roll on for years. Smells ok, does the job and only £1.45 in sainsburys.

Says the person that posts a thread on the thickness of fire doors. biglaugh And before you get all 'how very dare you. you stalker', clicking on 3 links doesn't qualify me a stalker. I just like the irony.

OP, how about you take them to Boots and see what they like?

Talcum powder was the thing in my youth. Lashings of it in the oxters and down the front of the Y-fronts. Always got a good selection at Christmas, usually in a gift set with soap-on-a-rope.

The boy indicated that he wanted some for Xmas but didn't know what he liked, so we got him a couple of sampler sets from Jo Malone and Creed with the intention that if he likes one of them we'll get him that next year. Now thinking I should have picked cheaper brands hehe

Erm… twas a very niche and awkward situation which ended up with a bespoke joinery solution. Exactly where the internet shines and is useful to discuss with others.

Deodorants and aftershaves are daily use products which most grown ups can choose themselves (like teaspoons).

Something 'fresh' or 'sweet'. Usually the high street type stuff is popular.

Versace Eros
Paco Rabanne Invictus.
Paco Rabanne 1 Million
JPG Ultra Male
D&G Light Blue
YSL Y (EDP)
Ah georgy, thank you. I’ve seen the older one using Eros. So something similar to that. Which of those is akin?

And for the younger one who doesn’t use smell ies atm.?
Quite a lot of the popular fragrances now have updated/flanker versions which are slightly different or more intense to the original (eg 1 M Elixir). For me (now >40) 1M Elixir was way too sweet, but would suit someone younger.

Re comparable to Versace Eros (strong note of vanilla), JPG Ultra Male also comparably sweet/fresh (pear and vanilla).

For me, YSL Y (EDP version) is a really good all rounder and is fresh/fruity (and good for compliments). Defo worth a look.

Might be worth asking your question here: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... Far more knowledgeable (and youthful) people than myself. thumbup

The question there for me is why is a 10 year old into it??

What an odd question. Because he looks up to and emmulates his dad? Because he has a sense of smell? Who knows... who cares.

Your 10 year old has good taste. hehe

Surprised he's liking Sauvage Elixir. It's very different from the original version and a lot more grown up.

Re Creed - did you mean Aventus? If so, if you check out the fragrance thread linked above, there are examples of excellent Aventus 'clones' that smell pretty much identical for a fraction of the price. Might be worth considering for him if you don't want him using up your OEM Creed Aventus.

Oud Attar do a Discovery Collection that you get 6 or so 2ml bottles of their various scented oud oils for about £27.

The could then choose which scent they like the best after trying them and buy the larger 15ml bottles for approx £40 and that will last months and months.

I’ve been wearing their Oud Cigar for years now and it’s surprising how many people comment on it.

For the one who isn’t image conscious then https://www.scence.co.uk/product/deodorant-balm-fr... is a great natural deodorant. It is my daily go to deodorant (they make a range of different scents).

I first discovered Aventus in 2014, I tried it in a department store and pursuaded them to give me a 2.5ml sample. It was, and still is the most amazing fragrance I had ever smelt.

I didn't end up buying a bottle for a couple more years, but when I did it just wasn't as good as the 2014 version I originally smelt. It didn't smell as pineapple/smokey and was no where near as strong. I just felt it wasn't the same as the 2014 version and I still have half a bottle left as I find it disappointing whenever I wear it.

Last week we were in John Lewis so I thought I would try it again, I sprayed it on myself and thought "what is this?" it literally smells nowhere near as good as the one I purchased and not a patch on the 2014 version.

I spoke to the salesperson who tried to tell me it was the same and that anyone who says different on the internet is wrong.

But it is different, it isn't even the same fragrance anymore, I assume it doesn't matter as it just sells on it's name now.

Yes, the 'demise' of Aventus is something often discussed. New version simply isn't as good as the versions of old (and salesperson is wrong). I wouldn't bother buying a new one tbh.

Emperor Extrait by Parfums Vintage is considered an excellent 'clone' of the old skool Aventus.

Quite possible that they have changed the fragrance, but I wonder how much people's sense of smell changes over a decade.

What’s wrong with Swarfega? If Pears Tar Soap ain’t enough.

Or, more seriously, Eau Sauvage, if still around. Classical and understated.

If you want budget friendly stuff try the ones in Lidl or Aldi, they do smell-a-likes. The Lidl ones are 75ml for less than £6 and they are not too bad, I have the PR 1 million and Boss Bottled clones and although they are not as strong as the real ones they will easily last all night long. The Lidl "Boss Bottled" (called X-Bolt) is also a very good clone of the original Boss Bottled intense which for me is brilliant as Boss has stopped selling this version and it is one of my favourite fragrances.

I was bought a bottle in about 2014, and as you say it was absolutely divine. People used to compliment it all over the place. I had never had that before.
For Christmas 22 my wife bought me a dupe called Club de Nuit which smell pretty close and people still compliment it. It also cost £30 instead of £200.

It's a shame if they have changed it though because it was exceptional.
