Agreed. Wince inducing.
My next purchase is going to be a blue dial Oyster Perpetual 41. I am relieved it does not have a stupid nickname.

Was slightly amused in Goldsmiths Meadowhall at the weekend, we were there for a charity car event and Goldsmiths had laid on a bit of fizz and nibbles as a thankyou so we popped in, why wouldn't you, and to make small talk I enquired about the JC DeepSea i'm on the list for....
Got the usual spiel about with the phrases 'hard to get' 'sought after' etc, I'd already spotted they had a 2007 steel Daytona in the 'used' section up at £28k so I mentioned part-exing my 2002 Daytona to then get told, 'oh the market is down now' and wouldn't be drawn on a value.
But the Mrs enjoyed the free fizz and the pastries were nice.

Lol. I had the same when I talked about trading in my 2005 Yacht Master, and simultaneously enquiring about another watch.
Trying to have cake and eat it. Smart business for taking people who must have the latest/most popular Rolex.
My next watch will be a Zenith, and not bought anywhere near list price, nor from an AD, thanks!

I seem to recall that you have several (many?) Rolex models. Aren't you one of the ADs regular clients and thus fast-tracked up the "waiting list" for the more desirable models? Is it their recent attitudes and sales approaches that has put you off the brand? Trying to have cake and eat it. Smart business for taking people who must have the latest/most popular Rolex.

I always thought it was plebs and first-timers like me that get treated like dirt, whereas the regular customers get the VIP pass.
Nope, I have a number, but two are older and weree gifts (YM was Dad's, Hulk a gift from his best friend) and one (Daytona) was from a non WoS store, and a bit of an odd one as I got it through my mother, who commissioned some jewellery, and where my Dad had a long history of buying watches.
I have only bought an Air King and Root Beer (as well as Omega, Grand Seiko and Tudor) from WoS, therefore am firmly on the pleb list! AK and Root Beer are not hard to get models but they were what I wanted, so I am pretty content. Only Rolexes I really would like now are a Pepsi (unobtanium), or rose gold YM/bimetal rose gold/chocolate datejust on jubilee (better to buy grey, second hand).
Zenith Chronomaster Sport in rose gold trumps any of those, un my opinion, and I am waiting for a deal as WoS often do 20% off on all Zenith. But available second hand (new) for way below list anyway. I'll buy from WoS on a deal though, if it works out roughly equivalent, to keep my purchase history, just in case they ever decide to actually sell me a Pepsi!

Were they prepared to put you on their waiting list? I've been on their list for a couple of years now. I've popped in now and again to check I;m still on it etc.Got the usual spiel about with the phrases 'hard to get' 'sought after' etc, I'd already spotted they had a 2007 steel Daytona in the 'used' section up at £28k so I mentioned part-exing my 2002 Daytona to then get told, 'oh the market is down now' and wouldn't be drawn on a value.

I was already on it, put my name down about 18 mouths ago. They did mention that they have been sending emails out telling people to call in or they are taking them off the list, I'd not had one of those but one interesting question that you could read more into, was 'are you ready to proceed with buying one immediately'
To be honest I'm not that bothered about it now, seen a few on peoples wrist and they just look a bit big, currently wearing my 1990's TAG Heuer F1 due to the reissue and at 34mm it's small but just makes the superbig stuff look comical.
Yes it's all about size
I've been wearing my YG skydweller on oysterflex for the last 2 weeks while my daily wearing DJ 36mm was in for service. Just picked the DJ up this morning so swapped back to it and it feels tiny and so light that I'm missing the skydweller.
That said in a day or two if I were to swap back then the SD will feel huge and heavy.
It's amazing how quickly something starts to feel normal though so I wouldn't let size put you off if it 'looks right' on the wrist
