I think these look fantastic and the white suits it well.

Can you share what these are like to drive on longer journeys (motorway etc)? I know its a boring question, but I would have to use it for long commutes and would be interested if the Toyota would work.
Cabin noise is no premium car but the seats are comfy enough. I went to brands in it last year which is a 300 miles return trip. Not a problem and very comfy not to mention I am 6ft3" so normally smaller cars can be quite a problem. Motorway driving you can easily get low to mid 40's which is fantastic. It is the most economical car in my stable actually! Heated seats and a good climate control system it is more than adequate for long distance. I would drive it on the continent if it was just me and my wife but unfortunately we have two kids.

I would even say it would make a great junior GT car for a two person trip.

Love mine too. I was first batch and I'm 13k in. Had planned to garage it over Winter but was too much fun. Conversely now it's nice I've been commuting by motorbike. Done the exhaust, gearknob, front strut brace and the speakers for now which was well worth it. Next will be lighter gold wheels which should go well with Electric Blue, diff bushings and still looking at intakes and some SARD body dampers. Doesn't need any of it but it's a slippery slope and anything I can do to get it to feel even better in a corner is a bonus. I also got geometry checked and front camber bolts as it was out from factory. That helped a lot.

Thanks. Yes I think the white was the best colour choice for me. I like the Stormtrooper look. biggrin

Because of the front end strengthening it does have quite a bit of road noise. That’s probably the only real issue you might have. I was used to driving an Elise on longer journeys so I was used to it.

Mine is not a daily so it’s not an issue for me.

Out of interest did you find fuel economy improved as the car gained some miles? Mine's currently around 1000 miles and even on a 70 mph steady motorway run I can't eek it over 38mpg; it's not a great concern but it amuses me that my F31 340i would be around 44mpg on a comparable journey despite being 400kg heavier and 140bhp more powerful

All down to the gearing in that respect. We have averaged 31 MPG over our general day to day. It gets red lined once warmed all the time so don't really drive economically.

When I got mid 40's it was a really easy drive. A1M/A14/M11/M25/M20 so a pretty simple drive. Very flat for the most part. Not like going on the M62 for example!

That sounds more reflective of my experience, 30mpg ish over a tank is pretty standard. I'm just always surprised that a long top gear can make quite so much difference.

I get 26-27mpg around town and playing on Welsh rural roads and I don't hang back. When I do longer runs like up to C&M from Swansea or up to Scotland I'll see 32+. Means almost 330 miles to a tank is safely possible. When fuel light comes on, I've found you can get 40l back in it and it's a 50l tank so comes on at 20% left.

Looks really good.

Always liked the gT86 and was baffled by people saying it needed more power, it was great fun, can imagine that the GR86 is even better
Problem is to do with today’s society. If you don’t have big bhp then just don’t bother. Regardless of whether you can use it all on the road or not. Pub talk rules.

I don’t buy into all that sh*t. I think it’s a great car for road use.

Its why I didnt buy one, although practicality was reason too. Think I ended up with a Megane 275 at the time, I had considered seriously a GT86 but wife had an MX5 I think so needed something with some usability.

Got a GR86 now and regret not getting a GT86 years ago but then I have had the benefit of driving and experiencing various M cars and figuring out that a lumpy, insulated car with loads of power just wasnt for me.

That’s a great story. Just goes to show how many people think having an overpowered car is the way forward. There is more to driving than that.

Good work!

I have a feeling this will always be a £25k- 32k car, forever.
They are great cars. However I’d imagine the long term values in the UK will be swayed by the import market.

UK supply has been very limited but Toyota have been churning these out across Asia and North America.

Here in Japan at the current exchange rate they start around £14,500 for a base car (steel wheels, plastic bumpers, no radio etc), and £19,500 for a full UK spec equivalent. Brand new on the road.

Considering the volume being produced (I generally see around 2-3 GR86/BRZ a day here in Osaka on my travels), I imagine it won’t be long before the UK is flooded with imports over the next few years.

I liked the idea of the GT86 but never really gelled with it's look. Felt it was too short.

The GR however looks much better. Has it got a different nose and a bit of a notchback?

As cars lately seem to have got very expensive lately, £32k new for a GR86 seems a bit of a bargain these days.

I got that price off the Toyota website that seems to hint that there are still some available.

There's a few on Autotrader with only a couple of thousand miles for between £32k and £28k.

I shouldn't be looking really as I've just bought a new Abarth Competizione, which I am loving biggrin

That's great news. thumbup

I'm starting to wish I had made the effort to try one now.

I did test drive a GT86 back in 2014 and while I loved how it drove the engine was a bit underwhelming, especially given the claimed power output. Although the lack of torque was probably more noticeable because I had a BMW 123d at the time!

I test drove a GT86 before I bought my Elise 220 Cup.
I was the same.
The GR has had those little things addressed. A far better car all round now. I find it a joy to drive at 7 Tenths.

Nice car OP...

I am considering one of these against a nearly new Mini Jcw as my next daily which currently is a Ranger.I am missing something sporty and fun for my A and B road commute.
I am hoping prices soften a little more around Feb/March..

Thanks.

Tbh there are only 1500 in the country which is far less than the Yaris and they are holding their value well.
Think the only way you will get a cheaper one is if it’s a high miler or had accident damage.
Only time will tell.

I love driving my GT86. The only time I feel the need for bit more power, well torque actually, is when a overtake suddenly presents itself.
