Sigh.... Another thread about the lauded MPPSK that I cannot fit to my 440i as it's a 2019 model. I wish I'd looked this up before buying it cry.

Don't suppose BMW have bothered providing anything for the PPF model cars?
Don't bother buying a new backbox etc for a PPF car, just get the exhaust straight-throughed by someone like PCW Exhausts (£300ish) and then unplug the exhaust valve when its open. That gives a good sound for very little £££. It isn't as loud as the MPPSK but for many that's a good thing!

At least that's what Ive done with my 68 plate 340i and I'm happy.

A few questions about MPPSK...
  • Earlier in this thread the loading on insurance was mentioned, but as it's an option which can be specced from the factory or purchased later from BMW, do you actually have to declare it on your insurance as it's technically an optional extra, not a modification?
  • Does it affect your fuel consumption?
  • Does it affect the price of renewing the BMW warranty?
I'm on the lookout for a 440i and, while I'd prefer one without MPPSK, an otherwise perfect car might have it and you can't be too picky when buying used, so I want to make sure I'm aware of any potential drawbacks.

It’s not available from factory, it’s dealer fit only so it needs to be declared as a modification.

I could still get the same economy with the MPPSK as I could before I had it, it’s all down to how it’s driven rather than the exhaust and map, in fact I can still get the same MPG now if I drive sensibly as I did before my remap.

It doesn't, as far as I’m aware if it’s a BMW part it’s still covered by the warranty.

Mine isn't MPPSK but is mapped (by Birds) to 430bhp and it gets better MPG than it did before the map.

If I had a factory 340i the first thing I would change wouldn't be a map or exhaust though, I'd spend the money on some Bilstein suspension - by far and away the biggest difference made to my car, followed by LSD, then map.

I think I’d probably agree. Exhaust would be very close behind though!

I've seen a nice 440i with MPPSK. Is there a way to tell if it's just the exhaust that's been done or the ECU flash has been done as well? It's at an independent dealership so they probably won't know. If I were to buy it I'd need to make sure it's properly insured!

If you go into sports display on the idrive the power limit should show as up to 400hp whereas standard would show up to circa 320hp

Google image search "mppsk sports display" and you'll see what I mean.

Edit to add, also on the engine cover i have a plaque that says "m performance power kit"

Thanks.

There's a pic of the engine compartment and the "M Performance Power Kit" plaque is not present on the engine cover. NB. I've Googled to see what it should look like and where it is. The "M" exhaust tips are visible though, but I can't tell from the photos if it just has the tips or the whole M Performance exhaust system.

Pics from dealer site...

No plaque:

But it does appear to have 400hp in Sport Displays:

My car doesn’t have MPPSK but still shows 400hp in the Sport Display.

I believe it’s the torque figure that changes (in the display) with the full MPPSK install. Stock car is 480nm and the MPPSK will show 560nm.

Also, I think the M Performance exhaust (only) has a sticker/decal applied to the rear silencer whereas the MPPSK silencer is embossed with ‘M Performance’’

I almost had it fitted myself but my insurance company got a bit itchy and despite many of the wonderful noises the exhaust makes, the bangs on overun were rather OTT IME.
