Wheelie bins, which way round?
Discussion
Cars out in the weather but bins in the dry garage...we don't let them roam, we'd just worry about foxes, hoodies with knives...
They're comfy in a sort of bin-port, the black "general household" bin, emptied bi-weekly, is reversed in to the rear slot and the weekly collected blue "recycling" bin backed-in in front. The coiled hose on the wall conveniently snags the blue bin lid open, would be a pain if it went right over on to the black bin top behind.
On the day, handles out for the refuse operators of course, but I note they're returned handles in....one assumes that as the mech on the wagon uses the same handles to lift and swing and empty and finish with a flourish, the bin is presented to the op handle-away after the dance. I assume the op man (or woman) being on a tight time schedule just wheels it back holding the non-handle side they were presented with, leaving the miracle of plastic injection moulding handle in. That's where the skill is and why they deserve the reverence and status that goes with the profession.
The little food waste bin is an arse and can feck off.

I wonder when they''ll invent a bin with the handle and opening on the same side?
Agreed ... Design FlawI'm trying to think ... Do they have to turn it , to put it in the lift mechanism when emptying ? so the lid opens . Must pay more attention in future

Recycling bin is side on to the wall of the house by the back door. That way I can open the back door and open the bin and put recycling in it without going outside. Particularly important if its wet as the back door step will then be wet. Means recycling can go straight in the bin without another bin in the kitchen.
The general rubbish bin is at the top of the garden by the pavement handle in so. Have a kitchen bin underneath the sink that rubbish goes in first. Only have to make a couple of trips a week to put the rubbish in the bin

I'm mainly impressed by how many only have one or two bins.
We have a black bin for general waste, blue for paper and cardboard and blue with green lid for glass, metal and plastic. These are all emptied every 3 weeks on a rotating basis. On top of this we also have a brown bin which is for all garden and food waste which is emptied every 2 weeks. We had to set up calendar reminders to remember what goes out when!
We are a handles out kind of family as it's easy enough to reach over and open the lid from either side but relatively difficult to drag out a full bin from the wrong side. It doesn't help that we have the larger 360l bins rather than the standard 240l as we had 2 children under 3 at the time.

Get out! Your set up, you’d have to grab the lid and take a step back to get out of it’s way and also have the filthy, underside of the lid exposed, all the better to get crap over your clothes.wolfracesonic said:

Handle (so also hinge) against the fence. All bloody 4 of them.
Wait, you have your handle the same side asyour hinge? My handle and my hinge are on opposite sides. I also noticed I have a 98db sign on it.
Can you all please check your db levels, I think it's important.

No dbs stated on mine. Must be the strong silent type, unlike the bin lorry which creaks and groans something awful. My handle and my hinge are on opposite sides. I also noticed I have a 98db sign on it.
