Moving to Scotland
Discussion
I am a bit disappointed. But we knew from what the sellers were like and how they had the house that they would need to be getting very good offers.
We offered what I believe was the right money. As we were given first refusal to up our offer I can only assume we were the highest.
Some you win some you lose. Will put the champagne away and carry on F5'ing Rightmove....

No they are staying put apparently - I dont blame them its a lovely house.
They told me what they would sell for. Its above our budget.
I got the vibe from the EA we were the highest bid.
you did your best sounds like they were literally not willing to move unless their price was metThey told me what they would sell for. Its above our budget.

best of luck for next house which will come along

On the flip side some people do treat a house sale quite emotionally so from their POV they have put a lot of work into the property and perhaps they had a number on which they thought that was sufficient for the work / time / effort etc they put in and when they didnt get that number they thought they would just stay. They are decent people, I can totally see where they are coming from. I am a little disappointed like I said but the universe some times has a way of joining the dots. Which leads me onto...... there has been discussions between us and them. I cant say exactly what yet as nothing is confirmed. Hopefully tomorrow.
As promised an update... we are moving to Scotland!
Pretty happy right now.
Obviously its early days in the process but given its a fairly straight forward chain I hope it all goes smoothly.
I am not a big drinker but will defiantly be having a little celebration tonight.
Thanks to everyone who gave advice on here and off line, its been very very helpful.

So they decided to move after all and accepted your offer? Or a really poor effort to get you to raise your offer? Either way it's great news! Pretty happy right now.

We moved from Shropshire to the Borders in early 2021. We had made an offer on a place in Gairloch, about 4 hours north of Glasgow on the coast. Dodged a bullet and luckily we were outbid. We should've taken note of the signs from the vendor as they went to Spain every year from November to March.
One of our daughters suggested the North East coast, Coldingham area. Saw a couple of places there but nothing really fitted the bill so decided to look to the Borders.
We've settled in a small village called Yetholm. About 35 mins from the coast and 75 mins to Edinburgh. Its a stunning spot right at the end of the Pennine Way so welcome quite a few tourists throughout the year. Only about 1 mile in to Scotland so a real mix of Scots and English. The locals are a great bunch and we've been welcomed way beyond our dreams
The place we bought has an attached hayloft that we've converted to holiday accommodation and at the moment it runs at about 50% occupancy so brings in a few bob [ Weve both retired by the way ]
The village has a couple of pubs, butchers, village shop and garage. Kelso is the nearest town about 8 miles away.
No negatives and only wish we had moved years ago.
Off to do the NC500 tomorrow!

Cheers all. Now comes the hard bit sorting the logistics and what not. Should all be worth it in the end.
For a move that size, hire a moving company IMO. It might be worth looking up Scottish prices as either way a truck is going to have to go both ways and it may be cheaper to get someone from 'up here' to go down and collect it all then bring it up.No link whatsoever but have seen their trucks around Edinburgh and surrounding areas: https://www.bishopsmove.com/removals-edinburgh/
My parents retired from Bedfordshire up here to Castle Douglas 15 years or so ago. I suggested using a local company as if issues after move easier to sort out.
They used one of the Dumfries ones. Nelsons or McBurnies of Dumfries. I TBH cannot remember which they used but they were a pleasure to deal with and better on price than the southern based ones.
I don't think you've said where your new house is. But I'd suggest "shop local".
