Well as from tomorrow, enter north yorks without insurance and we'll impound your car at your expense.
14 days to claim it (with a valid ins cert)or it goes!

This is aimed at the criminal fraternity - trying to get these pool cars away and off the streets

Hope all goes well - its the type of enforcement you want?

Gemini, good move sure enough, but how will you know? Is there an insurance database available to you over the airwaves now, or are your BiB colleagues setting up checkpoints where you think you'll get the right kind of customers?

gemini, its a great idea and i for one think it can only improve road safety and stop these pratts who drive illegally......but dont kill (or crush) the classics though!,i hope your force will sell on any non-plastiwagon euroboxes you impound.

(www.buysellcortina.co.uk members will gladly collect and re-house as many cortina's as possible and if you get any 2.9 granada scorpio's we'd have them for the lumps/looms/leather interiors too!! )

Yes, quite right Richard. All in favour of having the real criminals sorted out.

More power to your elbow - and my right foot. You know it makes sense! Happy hunting.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Is this not going to lead to a lot of people trying to do a runner if they know they are no insured? That would be my thoughts anyway if in that circumstance, unless my car was only worth 50p.

Great plan, hopefully we will adopt it.
It will definately get some of the community cars off the streets.
We operate a similar 'car clear' scheme.

No tax, no keeper listed - crushed. It's working well so far.

While I'd never condone driving without insurance, no doubt this campaign will also catch many who have been forced to drive illegally due to a ban. Where this ban has resulted from a few minor speeding offences they have my sympathy.

When you disqualify drivers in such large numbers, you force reasonable people to take extreme measures to protect their livelihood.

Other than that, it is obviously a good initiative and I hope that it removes many scrotes and dustbins from the roads.

How will a 'safety' camera impound a car then?

Lets go further and impound the cars for good.

I wish we could adopt the same policy of other European Country`s where the Insurance for a vehicle is displayed the same as a tax disc.

Basically one disc showing insurance details maybe expirery of MOT and road tax. It cannot be difficult to bring into fruitation.

Great idea. Adopt nationally immediately please. One question though, who is going to identify these people and stop them in the first place? I drove from Bath to Bedfordshire return last weekend and didn't see a single Police man or Police vehicle on the trip there and the trip back.

Now this is where camera vans on bridges can be deployed honestly and correctly. The cameras focusing on the said disc/number plate whilst veryifying details with DVLA. It may take a little time for verification of details however, the radio is faster than any car and a traffic car can be laying in wait for the offending vehicle.

Would that unfortunate person have the same sympathy from you if he/she happens to have an unfortunate marriage with your car or some of your family?
No insurance means No Insurance regardless of the reasons or circumstances behind the fact.

They should take extreme measures to make sure they are not in a situation where they will be banned. That means if you are on 6 or more points, be very careful and Slow down.

Then they should make sure that they are not in a position where they will have to take that risk.

Be more observant, and don't speed where you are likely to get caught!!!!

Excellent.....

I have noticed recently that some petrol station forecourts have anpr. There is no reasaon why this system couldn't be connected up to a database to prevent drivers of un-insured cars from buying petrol.

But then again the politically correct/great unwashed would probably claim that would be an infringement of human rights.
