Getting the cruisers on side....

Do you not think that police shoudld make more of an effort with cruisers and the "boy racers." The majority of boy racers and cruisers are very very hot on cars and there cars are in perfect condition. They spend so much time and money on their cars that they drive it very safely AFAIC. As always though it is spoiled by a minority of chavs in Halfords modded cars who drive like knobs and ruin cruises. Just my opinion like.

These guys spend a fortune on their cars...and insurance and all the mashings...
I always say to a boy racer/cruiser when stopped, that they are wasting my time, as it could be better spent dealing with illegal drivers and unsafe vehicles. However, so long as boy racers/cruisers continue to drive dangerously on occasions, we the police will have to deal with them.
I've always found them to be polite and never had any lip off any enthusiasts. I know a lot depends on me as a BiB and being in my early 30s, the cruisers can relate better to me than some of my older colleagues..

I am very into cars and all about them, and working in a workshop I have ever oppourtunity to "mod" my car and am tempted but from what a lot of the mechanics have said they do get a lot extra hassle from police than when they had standard cars.
I think I'd rather have a standard car and remain anonymous from the police than get pulled purely because my car is different. Would you be more likely to pull someone in a modded car Street?

Not particularly...although my attention would be drawn to them...so if they were speeding, no seat belt, or on the phone...I would see them before the bloke doing the same in a Citroen Picasso for example.
You are right, you can draw unwanted attention to yourself..(I can't pick my nose in a police car, as everyone is watching me..
) I also think modified cars get unwanted attention from the other side of the law; road ragers, idiot boy racers and thieves.
IMHO, I would prefer a powerful car that appears like other lower powered cars. The mondeo ST24 is a perfect example.

Oh definatly mate, a street sleeper. Say dropping a 2.0 16v Clio Sports engine instead of my 1.2 16v, could make things fun.
But for the next year or so I cant see me getting above a 1.2 with minor mods that arent obvious, like induction kit and some other small bits just to keep me happy.
But if anybody has a 2lt Renault engine sitting around then I may be able to get some money together

I don't know if it's getting older or the fact that I'm on my fourth estate car, but the idea of changing the looks of a vehicle drastically, I find simply appalling.
Lowered suspension so you can't get over speed bumps or into certain car parks...!
Darkened windows so people stare more and the BiB pay more attention....
Big speakers etc, so you have to take all your audio kit with you everywhere or they'll get nicked...
Or my favourite..a £1000 car with a £1000 spotlight set up on the front...
Then when you come to sell it...the £££s you've spent means £££ off the price! Nobody wants it as they think it's been thrashed and your only market is the Chav one...

Well my idea of looks were,
Colour coding the car because at the moment I have plastic bumper trims which are grey when the car is black, so I want to get them the same colour. Lower it about 40mm because I only have 15" wheels on it and could fit myself in the wheel gaps and tinting the back windows, would that attract much attention?
Hey that's good news. Street could you have a word on the qt with Glospol, every Sunday modded cars arrive at a few well-known car parks and meet for a cruise or two. Everyone knows, and so far the worst that's happened has been a few donuts. In response we get all our car parks closed (except the ones they move on to), road blocks, dog vans, the copper chopper FFS, video cameras on poles atop transits, hold-ups for everyone and sundry major hassle, and for what? I bet this costs a bleedin packet and does nothing put p155 everyone off. Get that Lotus over here !

Wouldnt you rather them meet in a local car park / field at night when its empty. If it gets out of hand send a few patrol cars round and the ones who were doing donuts or revving a lot will scarper for fear of being ticketed and generally the rest will move on. Otherwise it becomes a game of trying to keep away from the police.
Norfolk police (I think that's their Elise) post on the East of England cruise forum and always go the organised cruises in Yarmouth, where the cruisers have a collection and send some money to charity. Last year I think they had a small autotest competition between the cruisers and police.
