Sorry - best online payment method?

Both have a decent chance of the buyer claiming the item "never arrived" or is "damaged" and claiming the money back. Paypal even more so. Especially if you post the item to a different unconfirmed address other than the one registered one on the Paypal account.
Posting a high value item like a Mountain Bike worth £600+ to his "friends" address - there's nothing that can go wrong there
Surely for an item like that, as a buyer, you'd want to collect it and personally make sure it was in the described condition, then take it to your "friends" for storage if you don't want the wife to know? Otherwise if you do post it I would expect one of ...
1 - Item never received at "friends" house. The courier will however have a non descript scribbled signature, but it wont prove who signed for it.
2 - Item delivered damaged.
Both will end with the buyer doing a money chargeback demanding their money back, end up with the buyer keeping the bike, and you being left with neither bike or money.

You can't do a chargeback on a bank transfer (altho sharing your bank details is not something everyone is comfortable with).
I thought you couldn't but my dad said you can!? I would rather accept a bank transfer I think - not bothered if he has my account/sort.I have stalked him on Facebook and he seems legit with a lot of biking pictures!
All the posts saying people have been scammed after sending £x by bank transfer wouldn't exist. They'd just do a chargeback. A bank can 'undo' an error (sent to wrong account etc) but cant undo a payment on a customer's say so.
Setting up a facebook page that looks legit - ideal to scam lots of folk out of lots of bikes! Are either the buyer, or the delivery address local?

If I sold a £600 mountain bike I would be very wary to send it to the buyers friends address.
Even though it is a 400 mile round trip if the buyer paid my petrol which would be about £70 I would deliver it and take cash on collection.
If you post it and do the bank transfer I would take some detailed photos of the bike, tell the bank what the transfer in your account will be for,you have taken photos, sending to the buyers friends address and tell the bank not to reverse the transfer as you are genuine and he may not be.

To the above: he's probably a decent English gentleman to the creator of the thread paypal is fine.
Decent English gentlemen don't apologize unless there's something to apologize for, though. Also, bank transfer only - Paypal's far too risky in a situation like this, too easy to reverse.
I was apologising for asking a question that has probably been asked numerous times, but my search skills were missing at the time.
I went to the bank this morning - they said a commercial bacs is reversible in some situations. A cash payment transfer (he goes to the counter and pays cash into your account) is non reversible.
The person has transferred the money and it is showing in my account.
