Extension of ANPR cameras for prosecution.
Discussion
Spotted over on Honest John, courtesy of Dwight Van Driver, DVD, previous of this parish, think he, like me, got fed up of the anti police sentiments.
Anyway
But essentially I got sick of seeing Friday nights on the M40, when they were setting up roadworks and red X flashing over lanes 2, 3 etc, complete retards jamming through at 3 figure speeds in order to barge over at the last possible second having passed at least 3 sets of lane closure signs. Cocks deserving of a good nicking.
Anyway

The Road Traffic Offenders (Additional Offences) Order 2017
Coming into force
5th April 2017
This Order amends section 20 of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988 which allows records from prescribed devices, such as Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras, to be used as evidence in proceedings for certain offences.
This Order adds two offences to the list of offences to which section 20 applies—
(a) driving on the hard shoulder of a motorway contrary to regulation 9 of the Motorways Traffic (England and Wales) Regulations 1982 (S.I. 1982/1163) which is an offence under section17(4) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (c.27); and
(b) failing to comply with an indication given by a light signal not to enter, or proceed in, a traffic lane which is an offence under section 36(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 (c.52).
Daughter of the speed camera then.

Personally I don't necessarily have too much of an issue, except for the usual caveat that electronic enforcement can only see the instant of a situation, whereas often the important part is how did the individual get themselves into that situation.Coming into force

On the M62 last week Lane 2&3 closed debris in road , everybody gets in Lane 1 , fiat 500 abarth behind me dodging in and out then 1/2 mile away you can see end on the next gantry
Fiat shoots out behind me and floors it 300m up the road there's a big bit of metal in the road that's hard to see , he swerves round it not looking at what's around him at all just avoiding this metal
About 100m after that a guy was fishing about under his car so I assume he wasn't so lucky
I'm fine with both of them being identified and prosecuted

As has been pointed out for a long time 'the system' wants to move us to a state where we can be policed by technology. Which a) means eventually we will be under scrutiny all the time (which I think is wrong) and b) means scrotes that are outside the system carry on with criminality as normal.
I don't have any issue with this new enforcement, but unfortunately as is typical with anything to do with the government or Highways Agency (yes, yes I know wombles), the operation of it will lack any form of common sense and I can guarantee that they will set the red X's and 40 speed limit 10 miles before the cones start which will make everyone apoplectic with rage at being stationary in lane 1 when there are 2 completely empty lanes for as far as the eye can see. And rightly so.
Nationwide ANPR control is already here (and has been for several years). Someone can drive from Heathrow to central Edinburgh and be 100% tracked from start to finish. It is how the authorities identified the Westminster terrorist and caught his backers so quickly (in hours) a few days ago. They just ran his number plate through the police ANPR system (and his mobile through GCHQ) and mapped his journeys, stays and visits. The main difference is, the authorities reserve the ANPR spying for only the baddies -- for now.
It's been brought in specifically to deal with drivers ignoring red X's on the motorway, especially now that we have 'Smart motorways' where a vehicle could be stationary in a live lane with no protection until Highways or police get to it. It doesn't matter if you like Smart motorways or not, we now have them and drivers need to obey the signs.

So you think it's better for the authorities to just ignore people driving along the hard shoulder or past lane closure signs on motorways?Or is it your opinion that committing both of those offences is fine unless you get caught by an actual Police Officer in person at the time of the offence?

Sitting in Lane One (the ONLY lane open), knowing that I would have to wait until each and every one of those s had pushed into the queue ahead of me before I would be able to progress the odd car length made me seeth!
I could almost empathise with WD39 and his APIS crew!
Almost!

I've also seen cars speeding past a stranded car in L3 pulled over to the divide. That was downright dangerous as the X meant most people were in L1 and 2, the retards that ignored the X's could get up a decent speed.
I am prepared to admit that until about 3 years ago I was unaware the red X sign on a motorway meant it was illegal to be in that lane.
I had always thought it meant that the lane was closing, rather than actually closed, and you were able to proceed up to the obstruction.
So although I would've been in the closed lane I certainly wasn't tearing along in order to push in.
I had always assumed that to be the case since those red crosses appear 78 miles before the obstruction and therefore nobody would be stupid enough to activate them that far in advance if it meant the lane was actually closed from that first X. I do, after all, have a perfectly functioning set of eyes.

It's only one car length. Why get angry? Once you're all back upto 70 mph, how long is that in seconds? #zen7db said:

This is why I am angry.
O.K.?

The point though was in my post, in my experience those bds jamming through the red X signs , at speeds which are actually illegal even on a clear and empty motorway in good visibility, were doing it in the dark, with lots of other traffic about and completely ignoring signs saying workers in carriageway. 100pounds and 3 points wasn't enough in those circumstances. Any careful and prudent driver can see in such circumstances that is driving so far below the required standard as to be dangerous.
I didn't get annoyed, as being annoyed and behind the wheel isn't a good mix. Doesn't stop me thinking the worst cases at least should have a spell on the bus.
