I've received a NIP for doing 94 on the M42 at 20:45 on the 2nd of Feb. There are several problems with the NIP:

it's against a registration number that isn't mine (format n xxx) - I've never had a personalised plate much less one that special.
I wasn't in that area on 2 Feb, not even close. I live probably 100 miles away and would have been with my partner.
When I check the reg online it's against a Ferrari - never had one and probably never will.

Any ideas how this cock-up happened? I'll obviously reply that it's all wrong.

The obvious answer would be that the RK of the Ferrari has had their own through, then nominated you, and this is the result.
But only six days from the offence? Nah, too soon.

Is it your birthday coming up, and your missus has a VERY big surprise for you?

Birthday is still some months off. And she's v unlikely to buy me a Sept 2017 V12 Ferrari though she did buy me the Caterham Lego kit.

I expect there will be 500 sanctimonious wkers along shortly telling you to man up and stop whinging and to accept responsibility for your actions.
Plus another 500 telling you to pay the fine, take the points and move on with your life as it isn't worth the hassle to take it any further.

Just read the S172 carefully as IIRC there isn't a box to tick to say "I have no idea".

Have you really got nothing better to do?

I certainly haven't

Good for you Bert.

Mostly I only come here for amusement or if I'm bored.
Work has been thin on the ground this week.

Where did the thread about the bus driver doing 115mph go though?

Just send a covering letter back stating you don’t own that vehicle and never have and weren’t even in the area

Except it’s not job done is it, none of those says he doesn’t have information in his power to give.

As per my reply on Pepipoo, you have to make it clear you have no knowledge of the vehicle nor where you at the location at the time.

Even if its obviously a cock up by the police, leave it 14 days so they have no chance of getting their dirty filthy scummy little fingers on the correct persons money.

If it's incorrect just state it in your reply.

I got a NIP of a car I sold 2 days prior, told them it wasn't me and I didn't own the car and never heard anything again

Agreed, I wouldn't be helping them out either. The M42, righto. Major issue there then.

You understand how the 14 day thing works, right?

Do you?
They have to serve the NIP on the registered keeper within 14 days.
If they serve it to some random individual that has nothing to do with the vehicle whatsoever that is game over.

Yh I think he will need to leave it longer than that, help delay it out for 6 months.

Only 6 months if stopped at the time and verbal NIP given.

Well done, you're on a roll.
