The title on this post comes straight from the DM.....

Anyone been fined for letting an ambulance through?
Or taking it to the letter of the Law, moving through a red light to let a police car through can land you with a fine. Maybe they will stop, ticket you and move in to their call?

We have had this discussed many times. Legally you cannot move aside by breaking the law to let an ambulance, or other blue light vehicle through, unless directed by a police officer.
That includes mounting pavements, crossing solid lines, going through a red light, and yes we have had the ‘that could be your mum, sister, child, etc in the ambulance’

Who on here can post a link to a motorist who has been fined for this and I do not mean the ones who could not be bothered to refute it in court
Answer should be none as the potential fines for moving out of the way SAFELY are quoshed before being sent out

Can't be bothered to chase up the item but there was a big row in Brighton a couple or three months ago where a lady pulled over to a bus lane (empty of course...) to let a police car past. Both cars were clearly visible in the bus lane camera picture.Answer should be none as the potential fines for moving out of the way SAFELY are quoshed before being sent out
Appeal to brighton council met with typical two-fingered reply so she had to appeal to the ombudsman or somesuch who instantly chucked the case out.
The idea of reviewing cases before issuing tickets is sheer fantasy I'm afraid. It's more like the Wild West - shoot first, field questions later.

Write to your MPs about this. Mine had no idea that moving out of the way could lead to a prosecution....
Mine just has no clue! There's probably as many emergency responders who fall foul of some technicality or other than motorists.
Not commenting on the junk article by the DM: clearly churned out to fill a slow news day
