Looked out of my window yesterday morning to see an over-eager little hitler starting to write out a ticket for my Pug at 7.45 yesterday! We live at the end of narrow road without anywhere near enough parking, and parking on the double yellows is standard accepted practice up until 8.30am (even tolerated by the council unofficially).

Ran out and got in the car, telling the said 'gentleman' to get a life and asking how many people liked him as he was a traffic warden. The rather outstanding reply was a one finger salute of the central variety. At no point did I swear or say anything untoward.

I got out of the car, chased him down the street to get his number (not easy on a 6'4" beast) and advised him I'd be reporting him - so he said he'd report me back (). He did ask me to stop following him, so I advised him it was a public footway and I'd go where I like! He then buggered off, ignoring the in-law's car (parked in residents' bay without voucher) and 2 other cars on double yellows.

I did meet him again in an alleyway after parking in another street, and told him to enjoy his job while he still had it!

So my question to the PH collective is what to do? I'm sure a witness or two won't be hard to find, we are heavily persecuted for parking/driving in Reading!!

My advice would be to either
a) change my registration mark and/or car or
b) park absolutely 100% legally for the rest of the time you own the car, including photographic evidence each time you park it.

Never underestimate the petty vindictiveness of the kind of small minded petty little power junkie that willingly becomes a Traffic Warden.

(Apologies to any PHers who are/were Traffic Wardens - I presume you were desperate for the money)

Absolutely nothing will happen if you report it. Nothing happens when they do something criminal as shown by the undercover traffic warden series that have been on.

By your own admission you park on double yellow lines. You then personalise the whole episode by telling him 'to get a life etc'. I am sure you would have done the same with a policeman, wouldn't you.
If I had been in his shoes, I would not have given you a one fingure salute, but shoved your head up your backside, where it clearly belongs.

Policemen do something useful in their jobs - they don't exist to raise revenue for the local council in order to hide rampant waste and over inflated pensions.

it's funny, i would have expected him to thank you for showing him the error of his ways and explaining why he is unsuccessful in his personal relationships, immediately handing in his notice and donating his last pay cheque to you to pay for the ticket, then inviting you for a beer

some people eh

Fair enough, I can't argue with that. The thing is that you are venting your anger on a council employee rather than those responsible for the things that you complain of.
The guy has got himself a legitimate job. The council tells him to enforce council regulations (just as the police used to until recently) and you come along and give him abuse. They pay him a pitance, certainly not enough to take such stick over doing his job. In fact it probably doesn't take that much to push him over the top, because he is not so attached to the job. That is why, if it had been me you would have got more than the finger.

most of the traffic nazis in Reading are bastards, - there is one very fat er who is particularly nasty (think he normally works in the town centre) who I had the misfortune to have a run in with not so long ago in broad street mall car park...

Waste of space the lot of them..

You insult him then get the hump as he returns the favour.

Can you see where it all went wrong?

Er nope.
Traffic wardens are at the same level in the food chain as those other slags, the wheel clamper and the scammers in the talivans.
I dont see as any courtesy whatsoever should be extended to the likes of them.
The fact that he got the job and carried it out legitimately is akin to the soldiers of the SS with their " we were only following orders" cobblers.
They did it cos they enjoyed the power. Just like traffic wardens.

Yep - the traffic warden did not excorcise tolorance. If the poster was not impeding traffic flow, was not causing an obstruction and was not hurting anyone, why give a ticket?

A ticket (imo) should only be given where there is a problem. Otherwise its just beurocratic bks

just out of interest what would your reaction had been if the traffic warden had been your wife or son earning a crust to feed your family and they had been approched by a 6'4" beast? they don't make the rules!

Can spelling mistakes be pointed out - or do they need to be obstructing or interfering with meaning?

Ok let’s put it another way without the rabid foaming at the mouth.

You are about your job when someone starts with the 'your a worthless human being etc' now how do you respond?

Regardless of what you think of the wardens, double yellows mean no parking. We all do it but it sucks when we get caught out but that's life. Some you win some you lose. What it doesn't give you the right to do is verbally abuse someone (regardless whether obscenities are used or not) because you feel annoyed at being caught with your pants down.

I'm not a lover of traffic wardens or bailiffs for that matter but still have enough self-control to conduct myself like a decent member of society. If you have an issue with the ticket or the parking restrictions then take it to the organ grinder not the monkey.

So he cant spell, so he hit the wrong key, big deal, we all have faults, what are yours?
Instead of picking on a minor spelling mistake its surely more important to question the stance taken....or is spelling more important than the message being conveyed these days???
