Sent a mail Yesterday about the new "Phantom" Scam on the A64 York road outside of Leeds. correspondence as follows.

Sent Mail

Apart from the now batently obvious fact that 90% of your "Fixed" sites obviously don't cut casualties you now are insulting the intelligence of web users by claiming to have a Camera that does not exist!!!! HAving said that the start date is the 1st April so maybe the jokes on you! Oh and can we have a "Not a hope" option for SCaN please. That way you might start to get an idea how badly some people want to see you shut down!!

Recieved back from "the Gnome"

… Then you, and they… the sad, tiny number of people who feel that speed limits are ok for everyone else but not for them… and in for a serious disappointment. Cameras are here to stay. They work. Almost everybody wants to see more of them because they save lives and reduce casualties on local roads. That’s what people want.

Having recieved such a blatent piece of propoganda I sent this reposte.

Personally I think it’s rather sad that you haven’t taken note that it’s a majority that believe the cameras are a money making exercise designed to keep another Quango going, however it keep’s you in a job doesn’t it?? Your own website stats prove it, on the majority of sites the stats are the same or getting worse. So what’s better? A Camera that earns you money? Or road improvements that COST money but actually DO SAVE LIVES. I know your answer and you’ll continue to trot out the same old discredited stats until you are so unpopular you are disbanded. Speed limits used to be a guide. 30Mph past schools at 0830 to 0930 and 1500 to 1600 hours are blatantly too fast. However at 2100 to 0500 it could very well be that NSL’s are more appropriate!! Set unrealistic limits or as YOU DO lower the limit when a Mobile or Fixed unit show’s just how SAD and deceitful your unit is. I am a person. I know several other person’s old and young. I have yet to meet any who feel that Cameras save lives and reduce “casualties”. What people want is Traffic Police who actually do get the people who cause accidents, not due to speed. But due to inattention, drink and drugs and unsocial driving(no licence, no insurance, no tax).

Anybody wishing to add to this "debate" (my quotes as the Gnome obviously peers at his navel instead of looking at real life). Needs to use the following email address.

Do these people believe everything that the government tells them or just the lies about the roads getting safer?

He must need more than Horlicks to get to sleep at night.

Having had similar debates with my measure stick of the general publics opinion on things I can say that yes they do belive the cameras are making the roads safer in most cases.

Eugh you still give him the time of day?

I had tens of email ramblings with him about two years ago now and he still insits on sending me the bloody newsletter!

Infact he sounds more bitter and blinkered than ever now.

Scary stuff in a way... bitter and twisted and somehow seen as responsible for road safety? Exactly the wrong kind of person we want in that position!

Absolutely. But 'bitter and twisted' fits many middle-ranking and senior local-government employees, quite honestly. Anyone with any ambition or self-respect goes into industry, goes self-employed, or even goes into central government.

Too late..

Am I the only one offended by the fact he has replied using insults?

I would also point him to Traffic Taliban Central Bruntstrum's stats, which even if edited to suit the Scamerati, show there are more accidents this year than last year for the same period, which is amazing given there are loads of scameras in his patch.

Nope that is very unprofessional but at least he has taken the time to reply which is more than I have experienced, when replying I'd personally refrain from insulting the tt otherwise he is likely to stop responding before you get your answer.

It does amaze me how he refers to the "tiny number" who break speed limits and yet he makes a nice living out of it. Surely he realises through his day-to-day driving that it's not a "tiny number" who break limits and must have experienced some chaos caused by his scams such as panic braking. The bloke obviously has very little common sense which I spose makes him ideal for the job.

Unfortunately - you are right. I have had the same argument with countless people at work, and point them here, safespeed, and pepipoo and they just cannot see it!

It's a scary world, with THICK STUPID BRAINLESS ZOMBIE people

Remove speedo's from everyone's cars and the drive to work would just be like any other day, with retards going too fast for the conditions, and slow biddies and muppets going far too slowly and everyone else in-between just making safe progress

That's not my experience but perhaps it's just the people I chose to speak to. It's not surprising really that so many people believe that "speed kills" as it's on the tv and radio so often and brainwashes people into believing it. I doubt that anyone on here would dispute the consequences of an accident at high speeds but perhaps the ads should be brainwashing people into paying a bit more attention, using their mirrors, not tailgating etc. to help reduce casualty figures.

I had a prang recently, I was well under the limit and paying attention to some womans driving who I thought had the potential to drive into the side of me at any time, low and behold just as I got the opportunity to get past her the bloke infront of her drove into the side of me, fantastic! Both drivers had no idea what was going on around them imo, caused an accident between them and all well within the limit. The only bonus was that the bloke realised it was his fault and paid for the damages despite believeing that if he'd indicated he would have been in the right. This is the first accident I have had and all caused by driver inattention, nuff said.

Your looking at it all wrong, in his world common sense rules do't apply.
Let me explain, you get the total number of scamera convictions in a day then multiply that by the time between the two flahes of the camera (as obviously that is the only time you KNOW a person was speeding for).
You then take a percentage of that figure against all the seconds that every driver spends on the road each day.
That is a very small percentage, therefore obvoiusly there are a "tiny" number of speeders on our roads.

We could hasten the process by all driving under the speed limit so the Scamera partnerships go bust?

You can't expect the sort of people who think like he does to have much evidence of education or intelligence in any other aspect of life.

They'll just lower the limits or make enforcement stricter. If everyone drove under the limit the number of KSIs wouldn't alter significantly so they'd jump to the conclusion that thelimits are too high. Not only that but people like our friendly GNOME would be unable to pay his mortgage every month. The upshot is that while the scameras are winning the PR war through mis-information and propaganda they are here to stay!

I just can't get my head around the fact that this government (and to be fair not just them) have been proven to spin and lie in everything they do, so why should anyone (even THICK STUPID BRAINLESS ZOMBIEs ) believe that road safety policies and the stats they are based on are any different.

Speed limits have legally never been a guide so far as I know. If you are writing to pedantic little tts like this idiot at Bradford, I thinks it's better you get your facts right first.

Secondly, these people are the masters of spin. You may have a point about the NSP outside a school at 21.00-05.00 (though I very much doubt it!) but look how they could turn this on it's head and have a headline saying "Irresponsible speed merchant wants 70mph speed limit outside school". To most folks eyes this would be deemed ridiculous and you'd make yourself look very foolish. You are playing into their hands with badly thought out arguments like this and you'd be well off remebering the old maxim that "if you've nowt useful to say, then say nowt".

Indeed, much better to just smash their tools of opression at every possible opportunity where you will get away with it

Should get even easier as they put more camera's up on these rural roads too
