Govt launches website telling us why we need robotic policing...
Flying in the face of an increasing backlash and resentment against robotic policing of our roads, Road Safety Minster, David Jamieson has welcomed the launch of the first official website aimed at providing people with more information about 'safety' cameras.
The new website launched by National Camera Partnership Liaison will provide people with more information about cameras and the workings of the safety camera scheme. David Jamieson said:"Speed cameras save lives. The Government has demanded that cameras are visible and conspicuous to motorists and placed only in areas with high level of casualties. We expect local camera partnerships to be upfront and transparent in their efforts to curb speeds and save lives . "This website will be a useful resource for the public - outlining where cameras are and explaining the safety benefits of their deployment. Speed is one of the biggest killers on our roads and we look forward to a time when no speeding tickets are issued and everyone drives safely ."The new website can be found at www.nationalsafetycameras.co.uk

How about a letter telling them what a good job they are doing (appropriate for cameras, but not vans)
Dear Mr Politician
I would like to thank you for your current road policy. I feel that the current “Safety” cameras suit my requirements much better than the annoying policemen in police cars of the past. They used to bother me constantly complaining about when my lights didn’t work or my exhaust was dangling behind the car.
Things are not too good for me at the moment, but at least I can stay on the road. Money is a bit tight so I haven’t been able to get any insurance, and a mate has done me a tax disk on his bubble jet printer on his home PC. As long as I avoid the camera locations I seem to be okay at the moment, very handy. My tyres are now like slicks and give very good dry grip, but a bit slidy in the wet. The cameras don’t seem to notice this either so I can have lots of fun at roundabouts. It’s nice being able to chill out on a night with a joint and a drink too. I take extra care not to speed when heading home after a few as I know I can get in trouble for this. It doesn’t matter if I end up weaving about a bit as long as my speed doesn’t become dangerous.
Yours faithfully
Maximillian Power.

Not half as useful as www.saferroads.co.uk methinks...
Edited to add we haven't actually officially launched this yet (just working on the press mailing) so please keep quiet about it for now. Expect news of official launch on PH very soon though.

I really like the way that their news section includes a document describing how 'cameras save lives' (which they may do, if positioned where needed). The document referred to comes from Australia, quoting a major reduction in deaths for an area of NSW.
This is a 'national' UK web site, but it has to refer to an Aussie document for statistics to back up their arguments.
How about a link to the news article mentioned on PistonHeads, where no actual link has been proven with UK statistics? I bet they wouldn't like to include that on their site...
