You actually can't see a lot to be honest - below is a screen grab taken a couple of hours ago with my DJI drone.
I usually fly it over the fields, but see no problem flying over the village getting some nice shots. It's not like I hover over peoples gardens at 10 meters. I usually take it up to at least 100 meters where most people are just dots. How is this different to hot air balloons, private planes, heli's etc?

You could read the time on a watch from 100m, easily, how do people on the ground know what optics you've got.

Helicopters have the '1,000 foot Rule' over towns and villages.

Yeah, pretty much. I can't get worked up over it.

Fly a drone over my house - I don't care.

Why would people care? Read the time on my watch of you like. It's not stealing is it..?..lots more things to worry about in life than someone might look at your watch with a drone.

Because privacy is important to most people.

What type of cameras do you think these drones carry?

I think you are massively overestimating what resolution drone cameras have - and massively underestimating the weight of the lens/camera combination to actually achieve what you've written.

I found this full size sample picture from the latest gopro - you can't read reasonably large text from 10m away, much less the face of a watch from 100m

Some guy was flying one along the beach yesterday - why should I care?

He could have been filming me in me trunks or the wife in her bikini - I don't care.

The chances of someone using one to spy on me and reading my watch from 100m up is not high and even in the unlikely event they are doing this - I simply don't mind.

I can't think of anything I'd be doing on beach, garden etc that I'd be bothered if someone did secretly record me from his covert drone.

There are much bigger things to be worried about in life.

Oh, I am fairly convinced you do have bigger things to worry about in your life.

Newflash. Its not always about you, what you want to do, or what you personally think.

Where can I find a consumer drone that can do that?

and this is my new neighbour directly over my property. He better watch out for the Phantom and it's death ray.

Even the latest GoPro filming at 4K couldn't do what you're suggesting

Most of us operate the cameras on our drones in a relatively wide-angle setting but even in their narrowest field of vision setting, they'd still not do what you're suggesting at that range

But what could possibly bother you about someone reading your watch from any distance?

Would you be bothered if the guy next to you on the train looked at your watch? Or the bloke across from you read your newspaper headlines??

Quite easily, the DJI Phantom 3 I believe is software limited to 500m (>1500ft) though you're supposed to keep it within visual range and you'd never be able to see it at that distance. There's a video on youtube of someone getting a phantom up to about 11000ft which is fairly impressive if not a very good idea.
