Police BMW engine issues

I hate to tempt fate, but the 2017 F15 X5 40d I've had since new, has been the most reliable car I've ever owned.
A car that leads a gentle life tootling to the shops and dawdling in commuter traffic is hardly comparable to the life a police car lives. For all the care put into looking after them, they are used hard and lead hard lives. I remember reading that the oil galleries in the old S60 T5 were redesigned after failures caused by police drivers going from nought to vmax as fast as possible after long periods idling. Just the sort of thing you'd never do in your own car. Earthdweller said:

Who said they paid £70k for it?
No one .. that’s the base list price before options Alternatively, could this be redirected police stock that didn't reach the intended customer for obvious reasons?

Unlikely they paid anywhere near list for it/them, there was a post way upthread suggesting that BMW wanted police market domination and were prepared to go very cheap in order to get it, obviously HETOs is a much smaller market but presumably they'd be willing to do deals of some sort.

HETOs are weird as they don’t like anything the police like, the previous x5 was assessed by highways England as no good for lots reasons , the only one I could find is bmw wouldn’t play ball on warranty with regards to towing with a load cell. Rarely they will pull a lorry with a load cell to safety.Alternatively, could this be redirected police stock that didn't reach the intended customer for obvious reasons?
The disco 5 I am told is ok to 12tons buy JLR that’s buy a senior heto.
It’s weird as Mitsubishi was their main go to for traffic officer and inspectors hiluxs but with the. Pulling back from the us market they are in need of a new supplier.
They have got some outlander hybrids for 24 hour inspectors but they don’t get charged much in my area.
Volvo have supplied some xc90 and xc40 for inspectors and to be used as general pool vehicles for staff. They replaced Hyundais i40s, they’re all tracked and limited to 70 except hetos are limited as they can go over 70 in rolling road blocks etc, most of the, do 60 most of the time.
They are trialing the newer x5 hybrid as now the powers that be want to go hybrid.

Another 330 with an engine fire? The news article says BMW and it looks like a 3 series, but can’t be sure on the model

It definitely looks like a 3 Series Touring to me.
330d Tourings and X5s (presumably also 3 litre TDis) seem to be the Traffic/Response cars in my part of the world.
But it does seem strange to see so many diesels catching fire. Presumably due to electrical issues as diesel isn't particularly flammable.

I used to know a Trapol that blew up a 535d due to engine oil being sucked into the engine on full boost. Could be an inaccurate or poorly calibrated oil level switch asking for an un-needed top up of oil with the resultant runaway at high boost/max revs due to over filling?330d Tourings and X5s (presumably also 3 litre TDis) seem to be the Traffic/Response cars in my part of the world.

The fleet of 5 series is very rapidly being shed. A real shame as they are probably the best all rounders and just handle very well. 3 prematurely retired this week.
BMW apparently not supplying Police any more, is this true?
We have another 6 petrol hybrid V90s arriving soon. Very quick on the motorway but nowhere near as dynamic as the 530ds. A real shame. Apparently VAG lead time is a year ATM so it looks like we will end up with an all Volvo fleet

Ouch. Unfortunately our lot started ordering the Volvos so we wouldn’t be a single manufacturer fleet but we’re now entering the same situation!
One would like to think they’d order ahead to deal with next years retirements, but…

We've got two 5 series on order, the two A6's and a XC90 (to replace the X5, which is pretty new but the ARV's are getting the XC90, so we need to reflect that), one, possibly two V70's and a 280bhp Superb, which has just arrived, I think we're getting that next month. Our DTU fleet will look pretty good by the end of this year I think.Unfortunately our lot started ordering the Volvos so we wouldn’t be a single manufacturer fleet but we’re now entering the same situation!

Has the article since been edited? - I can't see any mention of BMW Another 330 with an engine fire? The news article says BMW and it looks like a 3 series, but can’t be sure on the model
(NOTE: I'm not saying it's not a BMW, just curious if the article has been edited for some reason)
