Sounds like their system rather than anything. As someone else has said put 0.4 or 0.5 lol.Sounds like a bit of a nightmare in court, harsh in my humble opinion, a fine and points would have probably been better, you have no points and just a ban, so you can go out and speed again with little consequence.
It could have been worse, could have been better. So try and chin up. I'm sure work will get it sorted, can you not get cover from other drivers and then just work their shifts?
8 or 9 extra shifts seems very little to have to sort out if it means your job security is better.
1. It's hard to swap with other drivers as we're all on different rota lines and rest day patterns. A suggestion 6I thought of.
2. In a way I'm happy I don't have the points looming. But I'm still at square one as my job is still at stake.
3. Insuransee has gone up by around £100, but the biggest issue is they've removed the monthly option due to the ban. Meaning I'll have to fork out £1900 instead of £1000. Unless I can save that grand to pay it in a lump sumy by July. I should be able to but I've been saving up for a rainy day, never mind.

So what do they do if someone falls ill for 2 weeks or similar? There will be procedures to cover shifts, they can't just shrug their shoulders and go...oh this has never happened before...Cancel the No. 37 bus for 2 weeks till Bob's back!2. Sorry I should have expanded lol They have sub drivers for this exact reason, but the sub drivers are a bit hit and miss, they don't know all the routes.
Alternatively they advertise overtime, and try to cover it that way.
They'll find a way to cover it I'm sure, it's the short nature of it which they don't like.
No moral outrage here - there but for the grace of God (although my livelihood deoesn't depend on being allowed to drive).
Nobody has mentioned how this affects your "professional" license? Is this a matter for the traffic commissioner (to say if you're still fit to operate buses / coaches)? I've no idea.
Some employment contracts (mine does) allow you to take 1/2 weeks unpaid leave per year at zero notice (emergency leave). Does yours? This might stop you having to say you're not currently able to report for normal work duties (I know your work knows).
Speak with your union rep again, there must be previous examples of drivers who've had a short ban.

If they are currently struggling for drivers and then lay yourself off that'll just put themselves in an even more mess.

It will hang over for 5 years for the insurance question, like points will, but on the other side of the coin once ban is done he has 0 points on his licence, not 6. This means that he will not have to live in total fear over every single traffic light/average speed camera he sees for the next 3 years.So it may be hanging over him for the a few years to come.

I know that if you gave me the choice i'd take a 14 day ban over 6 points every day of the week.
just about to go through the same...........totally missed the 30mph limit and cruised through at 60. Total donut, very disapointed in myself. Road is wide open, was empty and I decided to cruise at 60 thinking that was the limit.
Make it even worse, I never saw the camera!!!

I know exactly how you feel right now. It will loom over you for a while like a dark cloud. In my case the letter didn't come in the post until 6 months after the offense.Make it even worse, I never saw the camera!!!

Based on my situation, expect and plan for the worst. I convinced myself I was going to get 6 points so I didn't entertain the thought of a ban, until I got a shock today.
I wrote mitigation letter and sent it in, whether or not that helped, I couldn't tell you but it'seems something which could help so I'd do it.
Something I learned about mitigating circumstances is its not about you at all, it's about how a ban/points could effect negative my on others.

Your code will be an SP30 with a 14 day disqualification.
Just thought I'd put my two penneth worth in here. When I got nicked for 117mph on the A1, I did all you've done and wrote a letter etc, went to court and also got a 14 day ban. The code was SP50 and in the column for 'points awarded' was SPD for 'short period disqualification' Edited by Aitch 'H' on Thursday 2nd March 23:37

Apart from the fact that you're having a child while "in debt" and you're willing to risk your licence and therefore your job despite the impending birth you're now contemplating not declaring a driving ban to your employer. Could that not carry a risk of further prosecution, as could continuing to drive while banned?
You really need to have a serious word with yourself and face up to your responsibilities.
That said your thread title appears to suggest that this is the first notice you've received of the offence. Is that the case?

Interesting to note the officer told me I would receive something in the post within 5 weeks. Which in my case was completely unrealistic and have me the wrong expectation.
