I agree that on most journeys relatively little time is saved by using high speeds, but that's not my reason for doing it.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Time is money. 10% faster is 10% cheaper, isn't it ?

Me averaging 65 mph on the M1 near Luton, versus averaging 90 mph on the A3 near Frankfurt, means a big difference in the time saved.

I only drive fast to save time, or to save life, which amounts to the same thing.

No fun in it whatsoever. Let's use the full economic potential of the hundreds of millions of pounds that have been spent on the roads.

Agreed. And use cars for what they were designed for. One of the joys of Germany is to see cars achieve their design aims.

Actually I got the speed wrong - it was actually 109.

5 points and £225.00 fine.

No ban.

Im amazed to be fair. A guy on the ZMcoupe forum got a 28 day ban last week for 109 and the Police trainer received 2 months for a similar speed.

Yes, they are based next door to the courts in Loughborough. When I see her I'll ask for a name.

Barton Bridge on the M60 has about 50 yards visibility close to the top.

Just happened to be caught up in traffic this afternoon (after driving from Leicester to Formby just to look at bloody Red Squirrels ) on the bridge, remembered this old thread!

All I can say is that your judgement of 50 yards is extremely suspect.
I was travelling at walking pace so had plenty of time to look, from where I was sitting I could almost see the base of the fifth lampost away from me. Ground level visibility from where I sat is probably around 200 yards, I was able to see vehicles much further ahead of me than that.
I'd estimate that the lamposts are spaced about 50 yards apart.

I'll probably dig the thread out again in another 6 months when I've "turned onto the M45 from the M1".

Only read page 1...

What an utter load of crap this is....

I used to do the full length of the M1 faster than that....passing police cars.

Never had a moment's drama......

Why do governments have absolutely NO idea about ANYTHING....?
