We need more of this. How many Mums and Dads were caught?

Quite a few Mums and Dads...Obviously taking their little darlings to the other schools. The same type of holier than thou parents in BMW X5's who would be the first to be banging on the police station door screaming for blood if their little treasures were knocked down by a speeding driver...

Usual case really...."the police should sort everyone else out, not me.." "I'm ok, it's them others" attitude.....Rife...absolutely epidemic...

I often work outside schools with the school children assisting me.
A large LED board is errected with the speed of every car passing clearly displayed. If the vehicle exceeds the 30mph speed limit by up to 10mph, the driver is given a 'telling off by the children' instead of a ticket...(they decide which they want)...One bloke once opted for the ticket as he couldn't face 6 x 7year olds saying to him "Slow down or you could kill us, Mr Car Driver"...Amazing..

Great Idea!

is it really? lets encourage children of 6 and 7 to give grief to adults , but what happens when they do it without BiB there?
Spend the time teaching THEM the green cross code.

Totally agree, I dont even know if the Green Cross Code is still taught in school..

In fact when I was down Manchester on work I saw a section of pavement at a crossing and it had 'LOOK RIGHT' painted on the pavement. FFS YOU SHOULDNT NEED TO BE TOLD!!!!

Actually no it's Alan (Mikes) dad, and no I don't complain that the sun rises everyday.
But what I do complain about is the way that young kids are not taught to have any respect for their elders (might be a bit old fasioned, but I would never have pushed in front of queue, given cheek to my elders etc) and pedestrians take no responsibilty for their own road safety, I have lost count of younsters who just bimble across the road expecting the traffic to stop for them, say anything and you get a mouthfull of foul language abuse.
You are BiB, ever had a youngster give you verbal? now ask yourself if teaching 6 / 7 yr old that they know better than adults. I'm sorry I fail to see any benifit to society in it.

Oh and when I was at school we had the local bobby come in to teach the green cross code, when was the last time you did that?

Another one caught breaking the law and 'it'snot fair'

With my dealings with the police it is very much do as you would be done by. I have always been polite and received the same treatment. Mind you I have never been stopped for speeding..... yet What if someone's pussy cat ran out in front of you from one of the houses.

You do the crime you pay the fine. Some laws I don't agree with - think I should be allowed to go into the local Aston dealership and help myself to a DB9 - but we live in a democracy and the majority rules.

Yes educate everyone. Drivers to pass schools at a sensible pace. Kids to cross the road properly and parents not park illegally which seems to be the biggest problem.

The children on the schemes aren't rude to the drivers, but simply point out the dangers of speeding past their school and how upset they are. I know this means they are heard as well as seen as the saying goes, but they ultimate aim of the scheme is 'safety. If the message gets across to the driver and they discontinue to speed past the school everyone benefits. Of course, if we simply give the driver 3points and £60 fine then the world is bleating that 'we're hitting the motorist in the pocket again' and 'why aren't we catching burglars' and all the other crap that comes from the mouths of people caught for doing wrong.

I've never done it, but my station has two dedicated school bobbies that do that very duty.

I'm very much in agreement with you about the youth having no respect etc, but we the police can't win whatever we do. If we come down hard and ticket the drivers, we're all little hitlers. If we think up innovative schemes like this one to get the message across, we are critisised.....

That kind of attitude from the 'impossible to please' public just plays into the hands of the police officers who's motto is: "If it's worth stopping, it's worth prosecuting...."...

I think it is a two way solution. Yes, please do teach pedestrians to not walk into the path of a car, but this does not give drivers a license to speed past a school at 70MPH. Streetcop's approach is a very good idea and I would support it.

Who mentioned 70mph past a school?
I was on a station platform yesterday when a high speed intercity went through >70mph, was I killed? no I didn't walk in front of it. So yes it does work both ways remove one of the variables no problem. Remove both even better.

Thinking about this. Why not apply the same approach to "speeding" drivers. You make a mistake all you get is a fine and some points. You may get alittle education from a police officer but certainly not from a camera. The result, you've learnt little and now got a lot of resentment for the BiB. So maybe instead of points you should pay for some driver training and education as some scameraships are now doing. The result, a safer driver (ok s/he may have been relieved of a few quid to pay for the course). Perhaps people on 12 points who need their licence should be offered ban or pass your IAM test? Lets apply the system at the moment to my profession. You kill a patient, you get a fine and suspension. But what have you learnt? Sod all. If mistakes happen they are reported, reflected upon, guidance is sought from more experienced practioners. Why not the same for driving. The result safer, more aware drivers not a bunch of bitter people who could loss their jobs, houses and families from disobeying some numbers. Discuss!

The problem with this approach in paying for a course is that you know you would be going to a course to have the same speed kills message shoved down your throat that you get from traffic police at road side. So again you have spent money, wasted a day, have points on licence and have gained nothing.

Road Safety enforcment will not change until THERE views change from trying to improve drivers rather than slowing them down and preaching speed kills.

To be honest I would rather just take the fine and points than spend a day or more listening to there "words of wisdom".

That is the honest truth, I would not go on one of your courses. I had the same view on this before I got stopped as well.

Personally I feel I can learn more from experience and driving on the road than I can in a class room as well.

It all depends on the course.

Sticking up for plod here, I finally got around to doing one of the bikesafe days, no speed kills bks, just make sure you stick to the limits in town, be aware of possible hazards when giving it some, road position for visibilty etc.

tbh didn't learn anything new just a refresher, and correction of a couple of bad habits. No hanging around either
