Let's face it, these limits are not going to be enforceable without GPS controlled speed restricters in every car. Bugger ...

Do what I've seen done lately.... a spray of paint over the lense of the camera seems to work - oh, and a couple had GB flags stuck on them.. very amusing.. Not that I'd condone that sort of behaviour of course, law abiding citizen that I am

Good to see you guys are just as sick of Gatsos as we are.
Just wanted to apologize for this Dutch export product, sorry guys!
If anyone needs hints and tips to defeat the speed-traps, be welcome at www.tuftufclub.com, the Dutch militant anti-speedtrap organisation.

Just a first usefull hint: put a tyre round the Gatso, fill it up with petrol, and let the Gods of fire do their job .

"Hundreds of road deaths each year are caused by drivers who are observing the speed limit but driving too fast for the conditions. "

erm so am I being thick here or will therefore changing the speed limits have ABSOLUTELY NO effect on reducing these deaths... they have just stated that the speed limits had nothing to do with the accidents ..

Most pissed off with this cr@p..
Matt.

I've done a lot of research on the speed-issue, and after reading ans analyzing loads of reports and surveys, there's only one simple conclusion:
"Speed doesn't kill people, stupid drivers kill people."

And what is the best way to create stupid drivers? Make up loads of stupid rules, enforce them heavily, and make sure people don't use their brains.
So much people think they're driving save, just because they comply with speed limits posted on some kind of big lollypop standing on the side of the road.

And because they comply to that rule, they tend to forget that it can be usefull to look into your mirror, that eating donuts and drinking coffee while phoning your wife what kind of dinner you'll get is not a good idea, etcetera.

Don't know the exact situation in the UK, but over here in the Netherlands, you can do anything you want in your car, as long as you're not speeding.
Your speed is being checked once every 50 miles, you get to blow into a breathalyzer(?) once every 10 years.
So much for safety.....

Sorry for possible bad English, I'm not a native.

Totally agree - this concurs with what I said in this thread..www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=12220&f=57&h=0 - the more rules & regs, the less people are inclined to think for themselves..

Speed kills, if everyone was sat at home on the sofa eating a pie & drinking a beer , no-one would be killed on the roads. As soon as the car is out of the garage it is doing some sort of speed (even 1mph) & it can kill.
Let's all stay at home, get pissed & scive work. Let's see how far the country gets then!!

There should be less picking on drivers flouting stupidly low limits safely & more cracking down on stupid & careless drivers using mobiles, drinking & taking drugs.

& bring back hanging for vandalising & stealing cars.

Agreed. When I got paranoid about cameras, I became a lot less safe a driver.

I realised this was wrong, and just use the appropiate measures, and better observation.

What I truly hate is *safe* road being restricted.

I predict a massive increase in all other crime types, as people realise that it is easier to kill granny than it is to have fun in the Tiv.
