Seconded. I still can't believe that green drivers can just jump onto the motorway without any form of formal training. Any bad habits they pick up in these early days will stay with them forever.
Take Germany as a good example, they have 3 full mandatory lessons on the Autobahns, and look at the speeds those guys and gals can safely travel at!

Joining a motorway from a sliproad, car in front does not accelerate to match (or get close to matching) the speed of the traffic in Lane 1 - either joins eventually and causes a queue down the sliproad or stops at the end of the sliproad.....

I was once unfortunate enough to be a passenger to such a tw@. He thought he was being safe, but I was sitting there waiting for it. The inevitable shunt nearly catapulted us onto the motorway regardless.

I never drove with him again!

I can honestly say that I have NEVER had to stop on a Motorway slip road whilst trying to join. (unless the motorway traffic was stopped itself ). The biggest problem is people do not speed up enough to join the traffic flow in Lane 1! This is because they are scared or incompetent. It is exactly the same as those who stay in the middle lane, drive to close etc. They are not well trained enough and not comptetent enough...

Bring in MotorWay lessons!
