Often a few words of advice and a little telling off is all that is required to get the safety message across.
I thought the above paragraph would be obvious to everyone and generally welcomed??????????

Yeh right suck up to the cop, act like a naughty little boy, and you may get away with a telling off.

This is the one thing that gets up my nose more than anything when dealing with the police. I am not a child and I refuse to be spoken to like one.

Now that I've thrown my teddy out of my cot I'm going to bed to sulk

Hiya Quinny...
Nobody is asking you to act like a child and such actions would fail the 'attitude test' anyway..

All the officer wants to hear is that the driver admits to the offence, understands what he/she has done wrong and the potential implications of committing the offence. If those details are met, then the incident might warrant a verbal warning and the issuing of a fixed penalty ticket might not be necessary...

Biting off ones nose to spite ones face isn't pleasant and can be expensive....

Nah I've done this many times, you know the routine, yes sir, no sir, 3 bags full sir. And still got done.

At least you tried. It might have worked. You'd never have known if you hadn't given it a go.

Quinny said:
don't accept any attempt at a lecture take the ticket.

You don't have a choice in the back of my patrol car. A lecture is what you get, usually before or while I'm writing the ticket. The main reason is I like the punter to know exactly why they are getting the ticket and the implications of their actions as opposed to simply handing them a piece of paper.

No I believe you, I just can't see you being satisfied with a 1.9tdi, (who in their right mind would be):hehe)

But I was right you're already talking about an MG, and the bike hasn't gone yet.

If you have to consider the kids, what about a stag?

No,No,No,NO NO

It's not happening...I'm not changing my cars...the 1.9TDI estate is fine for me and my wife is happy with her vehicle too...There, I've said it..

Anyway...I get to drive a 250bhp, 155mph Volvo S60 or V70 Estate at work, which gives me all the thrills and Kudos I want, at any speed..

Obviously will ask for photographic evidence, wont sign etc,

As mentioned best to sign up at PePiPoo and create a new thread with your details.

If you want to see photographic evidence then technically you need to sign the S172 form and decline the NIP and ask for a court hearing. *Then* you should ask for the evidence from which you should be able to determine your true speed.

If it was an LTI 20-20 there is a high liklihood that you might not ever see the full video. You might be offered a clip of just your car, but you are entitled to see the entire session. Some forces have dropped cases rather than air their dirty washing!

Write back and tell them you're pretty sure your vehicle wasn't in the area at that time and you'd like to see the photos please. Seems to get a result.

BTW DEFINITELY get the photos because the tossers have been known to make a mistake (deliberate or otherwise) and send you the ticket anyway.

This is a perfect example:

(I can post the photos next week if anybody's interested)

It's great to hear that if you pass the 'attitude test' you can be let off with a talking to.

Well thats fine, but what about turning the tables?

Plod hasn't really got a case, but stops you anyway. He's an ar$e, and no amount of bum licking is going to get you off.

I got nicked on the M5 years ago when I was in my new Sierra Cozzie.
Basically, i had followed a metro doing 65 mph for about 3 miles in the outside lane with nothing in lane 2.

When the dozy muppett eventually pulled into lane 2, I accelerated past him, only to see a plodmobile tucked in front of a queue of trucks doing about 50mph. (it was uphill)

I backed off immediately, only for plod to pull me in.

I was really nice to the guys in the back of their traffic car. Had a laugh and a joke, all very matey, ho ho. Until they said we are reporting you for doing 90 mph.
I replied, 'Sorry guys, but how do you know I was doing 90?

Their response was, ' Well we think you were doing 90mph, but if you don't wan't a fixed penalty we will just say you were doing 110, which of course is a ban.

Now then mate, do you want us to report you for doing 90 and give you a fixed penalty or what?

How very ethical.

I would have given a fortune to have a tape recorder in my pocket.

This is why I think my attitude works for me,

I really am not interested in any small talk or discussions on the error of my ways etc, I don't know them, I don't want to know them, I'm not their friend, I don't want to be their friend.

I treat it as a business transaction, give me a ticket, I pay 60 quid, thank you I'm now on my way. The end

I'm sure you're sharp enough, mate....

I mean; when people are in the back of my car, they HAVE to listen to my lecture, as I give it either prior to, or during the writing of a ticket...

With regards to the attitude test, it works both ways. If you know the law and your rights, you can make their (plod) life more difficult if they are being funny with you.

I've had coppers trying to derogate me before, probably due to my age, and boy they have had to make up for it.

There are coppers I've come across who I've had to put in their place, due to some arsehole attitude they've had. It can be quite fun

Obviously they didn't stop you for the right reasons, or had the experience to 'deal' with you properly...

In the words of Alan Partridge...good coppers 'always have the last laugh'...

(That's with numpties of course. I've always maintained that there are enough chavs and scum to fall out with, without upsetting decent/pleasant people.)
