It's the Labour Party Conference at the Brighton Centre - all main (not major) routes into Brighton are covered and probably will be for the duration - they have even got Porta-loo's next to/in front of the vans.

I'm sure P'hers in Sussex will either have the numption to speed in the appropriate places, the observation skills to spot camera vans and the like and possibly also invest in radar detectors...
Observation skills to spot a camera van? Who round here has the ability to see round corners or over hills?
Or are you saying that all camera vans don't clock drivers as soon as they are in sight? I suspect that most camera vans will concentrate on a corner or brow of a hill so the second you are in their sights you are caught. I very much doubt they allow time for an observant driver to spot them and reduce their speed accordingly. Given the effort many camera vans make to hide behind bridges telegraph poles etc, they seem to be disguised as work vans etc, so it seems umlikely they woill offer even the observant driver time to slow down.

Its all bollox really - any undesirables who really wanted to be in town have only to look at an OS map! They have the cameras in the wrong places.
Depends on your definition of undesirables! They are probably keeping an eye out for hunt protestors etc.
After all whats to stop you coming in by train?

Blimey! How wide are the telegraph poles round your neck of the woods?
Well the Kent vans have a tiny camera sign on them, and are escort van sized. I saw one on Friday that was parked behind a telegraph pole so that the camera sign was obscured by said pole.
Therefore it looked like any utility van, mind you as there was a recovery operation from an earlier accident at the corner immediately before it, meaning all traffic was reduced to a crawl I suspect it had very slim pickings!
There was certainly 1 ANPR van on the A27 just after the tunnel Eastbound, and there was an AnPR on the southbound A23 on Sat and Sun , both had police cars waiting a bit further down which had pulled various cars.
There was also is air exclusion zone around Brighton sat and sun, with one light aircraft (afaik) on Sunday being intercepted and led away by the police heli - Suday flyers......tch.

I was speaking at a car meet to the Kent Head of taking 60 pound notes. She said they would rather catch less people as it creates less paperwork; and if a van was caught "hiding" they wouldn't look too kindly on it. Got her email addy around here somewhere

The lads on the bridge over the A23 at Albourne are running a 24hr operation. Although the van is totally hidden from the view of traffic, I dont have a problem with it as they are obviously not targetting speeders.
As someone who was on the seafront when the Brighton bomb went off, the more they do to protect life and limb, the better.

I saw these on the A23/A27 when I was down there at the weekend. Thought they were for speeding to be honest, and was surprised that they appeared to be unmanned.
Guess camera van was hiding in the bushes.
Was shocked to be coming back at night on Sunday and still see them there and then a marked car a bit further on from them.
Glad they were ANPR. Trouble is, the general impression with the public is that they are speed cameras and that we are just getting robbed again.
Seems a shame when bib are put to good use that they cant advertise it more so people arent misinformed.

Hmmm obviously depends on your definition of hiding then! One of the mobile camera sites is on the A229 at the bottom of Bluebell Hill. The scamera sits on the roundabout at the junction with the M20 and the Aylesford road. The Scamera van is clearly visible to those on the roundabout, however they are not its intended victims.
The victims are underneath it on the A229 and because the scamera van is on the roundabout above them there is no chance of them seeing it, unless it is in the rear view mirror as they go up the hill.
