You misquoted ATG.

Jeez!!!

In fact, have you even bothered to read the post you are commenting on?

In fact, in fact, have you even got beyond the first line?

Read the article and weep:

Substitute cars for guns and it could be describing the politics of motoring.

And unfortunately you can substitute anything you want for cars and it still rings true.

I think that essay gives an interesting insight into the mindset of the NRA........

I think you've missed the point, ATG.

Are you struggling with ?!?!?!?

Lookee here!

I'm going to misquote Pigeon now:

Pigeon might as well have said:
I don't think the situations are necessarily comparable though. Nobody (apart from the public services and transport companies) actually needs a motor vehicle - a motor vehicle in private ownership is just a toy; if all civilian cars turned to cheese tomorrow it wouldn't make any real difference. If all cars turned to cheese tomorrow, the country wouldn't collapse. Even without massively expanded public transport this would still be the case. There will always be a need for public transport - it's no more likely to disappear than supermarkets.

So Ban me!

Why do I waste my time?!?!?!?!

Personally I'd have a lot more respect for your opinions if you could present them calmly.

And I'm struggling with people insulting me without even the courtesy of reading what I have posted.

Have you actually read any of my "flying off the handle" posts?

Because if you had you would be apologising, not adding fuel to the fire.

I've not noticed an apology anywhere.

When I did you accused me of misquoting.

Try reading the thread.

This is going to end in tears I'm afraid, which is unfortunate, as I tend to agree with some of what bogush is saying.

Best wishes all,

....999, 1000, and breath.......

OK, when you and ATG and Pigeon finally get round to reading the article I pointed you towards (when you find you have plenty of time on your hands to read it on the bus, because cars have been banned), if you manage to finally get the point it is trying to make, you will suddenly realise that you and ATG and Pigeon and Streetcop and tvrgit and marcos maniac and all the rest are the various factions of the gun lobby.

And I'm the writer of an essay explaining how you are helping to push motoring down the slippery slope.

You might even finally realise that, as I'm not an academic carrying out a post-mortem, but someone watching you playing on the track while the loco bears down on you, it was perfectly reasonable for me to lose my rag when you not only ignored my warnings, but hurled abuse and threw sticks at me.

Would you like to point out exactly which of my posts were not discussed in a calm manner?

If it makes it simpler and easier for you, just point out exactly when they stopped being calm.

You might find it revealing.

(All I was saying is that the loss of access to guns in the UK isn't a good example of a slippery slope ... it was a series of specific and more or less unrelated historical events against a background in which there was a generally dwindling reason to have access to them.)

When anyone who had bothered reading the thread before shooting their mouth off would have realised that I was using ATG's post to demonstrate the point of the thread.

In fact, anyone even bothering to read the post you were refering to would have spotted:
