It's no comfort I know, but try not to worry about it, I guess you'll have some insurance cover.

The police are pretty hopeless though. I went into our local 7/11 a while back. They're known for selling alcohol to the underage. You know, they quite regularly set fire to nearby park furniture.

Anyhow, I think I bought a new cigarette lighter, with a ten pound note. I had no change. Didn't think anything about it, except feeling a bit peaved that I ended up with a pocket full of schrapnel.

Got home, wondered what to do with eight pound coins, I hate schrapnel, and whilst I was looking at the coins I noticed one of them was a forgery. Looked at another, and another. All eight were forgeries.

Phoned the police, got through to the call centre, "Sorry sir that's small fry. Come back another day."

I sympathise.

Hard lines Tony, the cops are a waist of space,i had the Transit pickup vandalised.
Don't even get me started about the armed robbery ,tossers

bastards

I have had mixed experiences... about a year and a half ago, my car was broken into, quite badly damaged when they could have simply smashed a window, and a high-value of goods stolen (which had never been left in the car overnight before and were locked securely out of sight, leading to us believing the car had been watched). Police were not interested, despite there being fingerprints all over the car. They only sent someone to take the fingerprints when I demanded that they do so. A letter of complaint to my mp later got me a written response from chief of police saying that it was basically my own fault.

However, my car was driven into last week while parked outside the house. No note, apology, witnesses, etc. There was someone we suspected due to the damage on my car and the location of their can and trailer. I was relucant to go have a look for damage to their vehicle myself (not wise to argue with burly builders at 36 weeks pregnant), so I called the police for advice who had a car out to me within the hour and checked the other vehicle and spoke to the driver for me. While it ultimately acheived nothing (like he was going to admit it!), they at least made the effort to respond.

Horrible feeling when this happens - lots of what-ifs going through your head; What if I'd bought a bigger lock etc.

Police's failure to come out is terrible though. How long before the police website just issues you a crime number for your insurers?

Ive had my cars broken into twice, and my brother once. Each time there has been no response by the police apart from the issuing of a crime number.

This is totally unacceptable, but what I evidently pay my taxes for.

I feel for you. Six weeks ago had two quad bikes stolen from my garage. Broke down the door, and because the feckless tossers couldn't be bothered to lift the things, they simply walked them over the top of my TVR. Much broken figerglass and paintwrok later!!

Wheel tracks across a muddy field and into the local gypsy camp. When phoned police came round six hours later but said they wouldn't follow the tracks to the door firstly because their torch was broken and then when I offered them one of mine because they wouldn't go into a gypsy camp anyway.

Last night the gypsies came back and stole some pointless garden furniture and a car trailer that wasn't bolted down. I haven't even bothered to phone the police because they wont do anything anyway.

Moving seems the only option because the police are quite happy to just let it go on.

Sorry to hear about your break-in Tony, I guess even being an insider doesn't help you get better service!

In my opinion, it seems that the general standard of plod (general officers as opposed to specialist ones) has gone downhill. Maybe they are all snowed under with paperwork and depressed about meeting targets!

Mate of mine and a friend of his were knocked down by an mpv in the high-street weekend before last. His friend was pretty seriously hurt. Plod attended (but not Traffic). The car has just passed over "traffic calming humps" when it struck them. The impact was severe enough for mate's friend to smash windscreen with his head, break his arm and give him internal injuries (he ended up with a plate in his skull). My mate said that the car "hurtled out of nowhere", yet beyond a breath-test, plod have refused to take any other action. They said that there were no witnesses (the accident happened in full view of a pub and possibly cctv camera), and they seem stangely reluctant to investigate further.

Yet another guy I know runs a shop which has been targeted a few times by kids nicking stuff. He chucked out one kid he suspected of trying to nick some sweets and ended up being interviewed at the nick!

FFS, talk about prioritising the wrong things!

Just make sure that if you carry your Baseball bat in the car to have a ball aswell, just in case Plod pull you over

Can't you make 'enquiries' as to who did it, (if it happened to me I'm fairly certain I could find out who it was) and then administer some good 'old-fashioned' Police brutality, err....Justice

Anyway Sorry to hear what happened to you mate, it sucks.

Please dont think that im complaining about the PC's because you couldnt be further from the truth.

Everyone that ive spoken to have been as nice as they can be and its purely and simply down to the general direction that gs are going at present....targets and paperwork as Sheepy quite rightly pointed out earlier.

I believe in the personal approach and it would have been nice and reasurring if a real Policeman had attended etc etc. After all, ive lost count of how many shed breakins that i reported in my earlier years on foot patrol around Paddington and Kilburn.

I guess what im trying to say is that i have now been 'priveleged' to sample this from both ends and the latter experience is most unsatisfactory.

Cant wait until i next arrest a Burglar.......or shouldnt i say that?

Cheers mate.....no idea really other than they are not local..i live in a small village but its sadly within driving distance of some large towns.

It just rubs salt into the wounds that i was in bed at the time and would dearly of loved to have met their aquaintance.!!!!!!

Makes you feel so bloody angry that some pecker necked little scrote has got is hands on stuff that you have worked hard to pay for and noone seems to care! Mungo, you say you have a heavy workload being based in a town centre. How much of that workload is due to pissed people causing a nuisance and how much is dealing with career criminals, who rob mug etc. to live? It always makes me angry to see the amount of police resources wasted on dealing with idiots who can't behave after a load of drink!

Just out of interest Tonyrec, would you be able to investigate and (if you're lucky enough to find them) arrest the culprits in your spare time?

or would you be in trouble as its not your normal 'operational duties'?

Nicking the scrotes personally would be pretty satisfying?

just wondering how it works for you guys..

Yes, it's traumatic isn't it? (I've had stuff stolen from my garage a few years ago, three times, and it still niggles - especially because no one ever seems to get caught.)

...and it kind of rubs it in when the police don't come round to investigate (as in your case), while we often hear of BIB visits to check a person's car for the presence of a garage door opener. Priorities?

Maybe they will come again mate and then you'll have the satisfaction of nicking them personally

... as long as you can get the local station to deal with them after arrest

Cheers mate and you are quite correct..they will come again.
Thieving lowlife are thankfully, not that lucky in the end contrary to popular belief.

Police simply don't get paid enough for what they do, in fact it's a p155 take what police get paid... as a salesman I got paid lots more for a lot less stress and a much easier job that had no benefit to society whatsoever (sales work is very boring by comparison though)

Thankfully, there are fools like you (with the greatest of respect - I'm ex-NHS) around to keep the BiB/NHS etc going in spite of the low pay and frequent ingratitude
