I have no idea if this is possible, but could you transfer to a training role?

I could do, with no problem, but its a bit 'rear echelon' for me at the moment. Mind you, if I obtained some training qualifications it could help me later on.....Think it's a bit soon for me and I like thinking on my feet, hence the ops room thoughts.. good suggestion though.

Or if anyone on here can offer me a decent job, maybe breaking in members of staff, or personal security consultant to a billionaire. I'm yours, big, ugly and easy to keep

I'd skip the MOD,take the job in the control room. Too many ifs on the MOD front.Eldest child is at the age where stability is important (i.e schooling and life long friends) Plus your 15 years into a pension leaving now could severly damage the payout.

Take the control room job sit back and take the time to evaluate if its for you or if there is another job in the force you fancy

AIMHO

or just set up your own car dealership

You'd have to work for a billionaire. Who else could afford to give you a different new company car everyday?

Funnily enough Mike it's nice to hear someone else is in a similar position albeit in a different walk of life.

Currently back at work on light duties after 5+ months off. Last interview with the quack went along the lines of "Well if a full time desk job is not available no alternative but to retire on ill health"

OK many circumstances are different from you but like you right in the middle of no mans land. Not nice is it? Not least of which is the quacks not knowing what is wrong!

I agree, its a funny feeling being in the middle. I personally think I will be fine, and certainly don't want to be classified as being put out to graze, but see the points raised by the doctor about efficiency.....I have never been a sick note and don't intend starting now....weird...hope you find a happy medium.

Thanks Mike, I'd be happy knowing what the problem actually is. It really is not a nice feeling when you first go to see the GP, have listened to the words but realise the face is telling you another message which is "Oh no, this is potentially gonna be really bad news when I see the consultant." Let's say I started sorting out a few issues so the missus will be OK. The other downside to being a medical mystery is you get stuff stuck in places that ....

My last sick note was in 1977, so like you I really don't intend starting. A fighter then and now.

At least my snags are pretty simple obvious breakages so to speak, I hope the news isn't too bad. Maybe the GP is keeping his/her options open rather than presuming or assuming the worst.

Can't keep a good man down.

I'd agree with the posts advising you to steer clear of modplod, crossed paths a few times and from what I could see it's not a job for a, er, fit young workhorse

Control room sounds OK, and like others have said, you can contribute a lot to the work of less experienced officers while taking stock for a longer term option.

Good luck Mike, I wondered if one day you'd be stopping me somewhere around Bristol, but not so likely now then - obviously I'm at the wheel as you'd expect

How about driver training? There are planty of companies that offer advanced driver training and I'm sure thye's value an experienced Police driver.

I've been going with a group of mates to Germany for BMW Driver Training in Germany and Austria for the last few years. Their Chief Instructor is a former German traffic cop.

Or add to your skills with E&E training - good chauffeurs with high-speed driving experience are hard to find. Mind you, they often double as bodyguards and your body doesn't appear to be much of an advert for your skills in that area - Streaky [who has no room to talk!]

Hello Mike - desk job man here
What is the desk job youve been offered?

As for control room - thgats a strong possibility

MOD will want your medical records and IMO will not want the burden of your pension and early retirement!
And there is also the factthat its a dull job! You dont get to investigate the good stuff unless youre SiB or similar - you could getto be posted to the shitiest corner of some god forsaken territiory!

Take either he desk job or the control room and mull over options in a more timely manner.

Good luck whatever

Whats your length of service?

Does 27 and half and Med Discharge you will get your 30 year full pension and instantly Index linked as opposed to waiting until 55 still apply? Also if it is a work related injury additional coppers?

Go for that desk job to ease out of the service with max benefits........

15 years to do DVD, so in the middle.

Hi Richard,
They initially offered a job in new bridewell, as file checking decision maker If it was up to me everyone would go to court so I guess I buggered that one up

The control room sounds the best option, they have said that it wouldn't have to be permanent, so as you (and others) have said, if I get in there and get my fingers into a few pies then we can take it from there....

Can't do driver training in the Police as I am not currently in traffic......Hadn't thought about outside the police though, maybe something to mull over. I have completed all the driving courses, and an evasive driving course when in N.I. All helps I suppose....

Control room sounds good. How does the pay work? I guess there is a little extra overtime for potentially working odd hours in the CR, well thats what they do in other forces at least - though this was a region where the CR is a joint control centre and needs experienced offices from the three services to make good decisions. Not sure how this works in your area....

From the people that I have chatted to about this in the past, they indicated that they saw this as a step away from the front-line. But in reality, it is pretty stressful at times, less paperwork and still rewarding - and the fact that its a bit more certain and overtime was available as-and-when.....

I wouldnt do the MOD police thing. I had a friend many years ago in the RAF police and his insight was about as accurate as possible. Everyone hates the other units for pride and history, but there is one thing that all of the units hate - and thats the MOD police.... so if you want to be hated by everyone its the way forward!

Its also not a pleasant job. But potentially a lot less stressful though.

Control room all the way - experience counts for a lot in my book and I would personally prefer to see career police officers in all positions, rather than loose them due to injuries and stress.....
